A couple of weeks ago we arrived at ADL for a flight to SYD to find all Virgin systems down and total chaos - only flights departing in the next 45 minutes were even allowed to join the massive check-in queue. Since we were several hours early (a long story) we decided to take our yet-to-be checked luggage through security and go to the lounge to wait out the inevitable delay. Now I had totally forgotten I had a pair of scissors and a Swiss army knife in my luggage which was course picked by on the scanner.

Well here's where it gets amazing - the security officer offered to let me remove these items and post them home. He even went so far as to take the items away and wrap them in heavy tape so they would not puncture the envelope. He assisted Mr LL obtain a stamped envelope and took him out of the security area to the post box. I have to say it's hard to believe this would happen in almost any other country in the world.

BTW - our 3:30pm flight finally left at 5:50pm.

That is amazing! I have vivid memories of loosing several pairs of tweezers on flights from ADL to SYD as a child to the security in ADL so I am glad they offered that :)
(Although staff at ADL are always so amazingly nice and delightful to have a chat with :) )

Just goes to show some common sense and a customer focused approach to your job does make a difference.
Reminds me of a time i had a staple remover pincer style in a bag and the security (PER) went ballistic, literally, over the fact that i had the audacity to try such a maneuver. Strategically placed in my work stationary pencil case i had flown to site at least 10 times previously and no such issues. The loss of the item was no concern but i will remember to not remark to security that "this has flown more times than you have" Didn't go too well. All smiles in the end.

Yet if you dare take an umbrella through security at ADL their reaction is almost like the world is about to end.

Maybe they've finally hired some people with some common sense and service focus :)
