"Alternative Use" for In-Flight Amenity Kits etc

I'm wondering what other people do with their in-flight amenity kits (if they do indeed bring them home).

I realised that the Qantas business class amenity kit bags make a great shoe bag, so do cloth bag for the in-flight pyjamas. Does anyone else do this?

I also found the Qantas business class amenity kit 'plastic case' makes a good protective case for miscellaneous electronic bits and pieces that I choose to put in my check-in luggage rather than in my hand-luggage - they are virtually un-crushable and by adding a nice amount of padding inside they come in handy - never mind that they are not the most attractive cases in the world.

I still have not quite worked out any decent use for the socks, ear plugs and eye masks yet (except giving away ear plugs and eye masks as I don't use them, and throwing out the socks - I don't think anyone would like my used socks).

If you know of a good use for any of the in-flight amenity items, please post them.

The old version F amenity kit makes a good travelling toiletries case (minus the contents of course) and would also make a good case for a Dell Power pack and mouse.

Old style F pyjamas are now used by my Mum and Dad, but apparently are also great for washing the car

I use the QF F amenity kit cases to hold two ties and to house my little travelling TDK speaker set. I actually chuck out all the others as they dont seem to be much use...

I bring the WHY amenity kits home and give them to my mother. On a few occassions she has given them to her friends and other times she just keeps them for herself. The socks are good to wear around the house and the small toothbrush/toothpaste is handy to store in her handbag and use on day coach trips.

I've used the J kit to hold my Bliss sinkside 6 pack when travelling.
Might use the NZ J kit to hold the LAGs but it's a bit hard matching transparent kits to the clothes I wear so I might just check in the LAGs anyway.

My kids tend to steal the carry cases for their gameboy games, and they use it for hikes. I am not sure what else they do with them, I know that they always vanish.

They stow all the contents in a box under the bathroom sink. Handy for when guests come to visit. We make the guest bed up and put a pile of "amenities" at the foot of the bed, inc the ear plugs and socks.

The amenities pack my guests receive also contains hotel shampoos, soaps, and whatever else has accumulated in "the box under the sink"

I use the old J "L'Occitane"/"Dermatologica" style kits with their zip up pouches etc when flying.

The current crayon cases don't follow me off the aircraft.

The zip up kits of the early 2000's are perfect for those electrical cables, usb drives/wireless dongles etc.

I use the Dermalogica-style pouch as an 'essentials' kit for whenever I fly (international or domestic). It's got the socks and eye mask, tooth brush and tooth paste, lip balm, some Vicks, medication if needed (sleeping pills), moisturiser, etc. It's a bit more of a problem on international flights when you're supposed to remove the liquids and gels. I've also found the tie that goes around the pouch doesn't last too long.

The current plastic J amenities kits, I now use for foil tablet sheets - they protect the tablets from pushing their way through the foil and stop things from getting crushed. The old old J kits, I still use for cables and electronics bits and peices in my backpack.

I use the QF Oroton ones - zip top for various emergency travel pills (its like a pharmac_ in there), and the flip open for moisturisers, etc. Take these away with me all the time. Not sure they are still doing Orotan though.
The QF Marc Newson ones hold two mobile phone & an ipod, which I always travel with. I have a lots of them, so once they get a little tatty, I replace them. Gave a couple of then away to some always-travelling friends, and they really liked them.
Have a drawer full of the recent (but superceded) tweed-brown BA J bags, that I really like. But can't really think of much use for them.
Lan J bags are handy for cords......
And I really try to give the rest away whenever I can (but I still have a big drawer full of them)

As I am staring at the high probability of delayed luggage during my trip in Jan (and I am not traveling for 7 weeks on carry-on only), I am thinking of having some LAGs (cologne, deodourant etc) in my carry-on and using the NZ J kit to hold them.

I give them away to family and friends. My girlfriend likes the new LH F "Bogner" Tartan bags, and uses them for make-up, toiletries etc. She also travels a lot for work but only domestically in the US so isn't lucky enough to get the goodies.

She also likes Pyjamas, and now has a few pairs of them. I use the older style LH Business class bags for shoes, althought the new smaller ones are not bad for cables etc, converters etc. I do usually keep some of the tooth brushes, and skin care stuff, as it's handy to have around.

LH also have small tubes of shaving gel in F toilets, so I usually grab a couple as they area very handy size.

My preference for Pj's are the AF ones.

Normally the only place I wear PJ's is on a flight, but heading back to Boston on Sunday, I think I might need them, as it's currently -13C (windchill -20). Brrrrrrrrrr.
