I think it was Patricia - or her half brother - as Hanneke was threatening to go to the police about the drugs and the family wanted her gone.

I missed that detail. Quite plausible.

People make fun of The Bold & the Beautiful, about fanciful plots - was it Bill, Eric, or Ridge, and did Sheila get killed by a bear etc. I'm thinking these shows aren't much better?

Monster: The Lizzie Borden Story
Not for everyone but +1 and I thought it was brilliant. It is gory and graphic but also has a fabulous (IMO) soundtrack.
On Netflix.

I have just finished watching Neagley on Prime (an offshoot of Reacher).

If you don't mind the far-fetched plot it is good escapist (but gory at times) fun.
