Alternative to TripIt = TripWaffle

@tripwaffle Hi, just added my GAdventures tour and it says I'm at sea for all the days of the trip. None of my trip is on a boat! Understand it can't give the correct hotels, as even Gadventures doesn't give those to us. But can it be updated to something like "on tour".
Also, is there a better way to send details of a tour? Gadventures doesn't send itineraries via email. It is all done online. I sent the invoice email. So, the correct amount of days are showing but not the individual places I am going to and the same starting hotel is shown for all dates.

Edit: Second Gadventures trip seems to have been recorded ok! Same invoice email sent🤷‍♀️

Sorry about that- the system saw your tour crossing a couple of timezones and it was just enough to incorrectly peg it as a cruise. This is now fixed.

On the individual places: the catch is that the G Adventures invoice doesn't actually list a day-by-day route; it only has the tour itself, the start and
end hotels, and the dates, so that one booking is all there is to pull from. Your other tour looked fuller because you'd added a couple of optional activities which come through as their own dated items. Same invoice style, just more details in there.

If you can somehow get the day-by-day itinerary from the website ('print' the web page then save as pdf? or save page as html) and forward that (tripwaffle at fastmail dot com) I'd be happy to ensure we add support to correctly pull all stops out of it.

Edit: don't forget you can always manually add the events, but that's obviously not ideal for anyone

@shopper_1802 not sure if this will help with your tour.

My cruise-issued stuff have only has a very brief itinerary on the e-mailed payment confirmation - essentially just ports of call.

What I've learned is that if I go onto the crise web site / itinerary it will allow me to download it via PDF, in a much more 'regular' format and also including notes on the days activities, which TR now also imports.

Any news on when a slimline view may be rolled out as an option? While I'm enjoying using TW, the bold, large and spacious view (which I at times appreciate) does get in the way, particularly on longer trips.

Additionally, I assume I'm not the only one that would appreciate the ability to swap the notes font from Shantell Sans to something more boring?

By 'get in the way' do mean too much scrolling or too much information?

Noted thank you.

Yep I just did it. You visit your TripIt page (after logging in). You need to enter your browser console (F12) and run a script that TripWaffle provides you from Your Free Travel Itinerary Manager - TripWaffle. This then downloads a JSON File onto your computer, this took about 10mins for my trips going back to 2010. Then in Tripwaffle you just upload the JSON file and it does it all including all the stats.

I haven't paid anything yet, the developers engaging on reddit, but it's free for now.

I've done everything on my desktop so far. I've downloaded the app also, but and all it did was notify me when I emailed an itinerary that was added.
Is this script no longer available? I've read the thread in full and saw a few changes, including that TripIt support will provide you with the JSON export, but then subsequent posts said TripIt has said no when asked (even though some had success here)?

Update: ignore, it's only accessible when logged in. 369 trips downloading..... 👍🏻

A few notes from my import attempt:
  • It struggles with charter flights
  • Quite a few entries that say 'missing or invalid timezone for timed event'
  • A few entries that say 'flight missing origin/destination airport (IATA code in parens)'
  • It struggles with the b*s (IYKYK @NM) (see previous point)

Too much scrolling.

I went down the rabbit hole and dug up some of the comments along this theme in the thread. 😜

At the moment, TW still takes up 1.5-2x the vertical real estate compared to TripIt. Having the option to view trips in a slimline/streamlined/consolidated/at-a-glance way would be great. If possible, the ability to toggle between views mid-scroll (ie. not just an account-wide or trip-wide setting), would probably be ideal.

Accepting that design/layout changes aren't as simple as they may seem. Is a slimline/streamlined/consolidated/at-a-glance view something that TW is working towards in the future?

My biggest gripe, comparing it to TripIt, is that it over-complicates the presentation. Pictures, logos, headings, boxes ... Too much info, needing space to separate it, resulting in the need to scroll, scroll, scroll.

I'm another person wanting a cleaner/more minimal view, with less images and things like flight departure and arrival grouped together in one event. Opening the same trip in TripWaffle and TripIt demonstrates how TripWaffle is ~1.5 times longer to cover the same items. Also, with things like flight departure being an event and flight arrival being an event, details that I want to see (e.g. seats, layover time, flight time) are relatively small and separated from the event. This makes it harder/slower to see these details.

I also agree there is probably a bit too much scrolling required to see everything, but at least I don't have to squint!

Just one thing for me that I can't get around is the how much screen space the flight info takes up.

Would be handy to have an option of a condensed view, or potentially the flight departure and arrival being on one tile? Currently any day with multiple flights or connections is overloaded with this info.

Like a few others, I'm finding the layout a bit ... "busy" for my liking. Would be good if you had a toggle where you could flip between a simple/expanded layout, and the simple could be more like the printed itinerary / like Tripit's clean and compact look.

Yeah, I'm definitely gonna have to repeat myself a bit from an earlier post: the TW layout is much too busy and fails to prioritise core information (location!) - I acknowledge that Tripit fails on the prioritisation side, but is more legible in general.
