Re: Airbus A330 flights expected to include the introduction of lie-flat seats in bus

The news seats look very appealing, but with 1-2-1 instead of the current 2-2-2/2-3-2 this can only mean reduced J/increased fares. I guess they needed direct aisle access at last though. Not sure how they'd transition these to the A380 as that'd reduce the amount of J there too.

And a consistent a330 product - amen to that!

Well, well this really is something out of the box "a real enhancement at last", should be very popular, well done Qantas.

Re: Airbus A330 flights expected to include the introduction of lie-flat seats in bus

With a product like that, people may actually be willing to pay the prices that QF want for a J ticket coast-to-coast and on their international flights!

Hasn't it consistently been the sloped angled-flat product on the a330 until now ?
Or have there been different seats/configs on their a330 J to date ?

Looks good! Kind of like a reversed CX Cirrus seat - they can't get these onto the A330 quick enough!!

They also seem to have borrowed from VS:

Uniquely, the new Business Class seats can be left in a recline position for take-off and landing, maximising the opportunity for rest – a key point of difference between Qantas and other carriers flying to Asia.

There are 3-4 different variations of the 330's flying for the QF/JQ group

I think what's meant is the consistency across both the A330-300 and A330-200 fleet.

All international A330-300's are the same. In the -200 fleet they have international that are similar to the -300's and two variations on domestic.

With the offset configuration, even 1-2-1 they can fit more seats into the same similar space. The reason being your feet go under the person in front. Same with the SQ A380 J seat. (and yes clearly others)

Consistant business class product, not enconomy.

It's very very similar in Y to the current 332 domestic product...

Why not? it did say the Economy cabin was being refreshed too. You would assume they will be all the same then?

Refreshed yes, not replaced like economy in the international A330's.

Source: The Qantas newsroom fact sheet, 2nd page under "MORE COMFORT IN ECONOMY"

Under "LATEST IN-FLIGHT ENTERTAINMENT" it seems to say that in international aircraft the IFE will be fixed and streamed and domestic just streamed.

So there will be differences down the back which means the product is not consistant. Whether that is good bad or indifferent is debatable.

It's looks like any staggered 1-2-1 seat! EK, EY, OZ, LX etc all have them!

Your point being?

No one said the seat was innovative; well, except maybe the colours and parts of the design.

There's only one huge negative out of all of this. We won't see a refitted bird until at least Nov 2014 (assuming "late" means near the end of the year) :( :(

Interesting that you can recline the seat even at take off. Why would this be possible? I know NZ and VS also allow you to do this; do TG allow the same - no, the fact that TG FAs don't care what goes on in the cabin doesn't count.

Is it because since everyone has direct aisle access, reclining your seat doesn't cause an obstruction that someone needs to overcome in an emergency evacuation?
