All Qantaslink flights to depart SYD T3 from August 15th 2013

I was in the T2 QP last night and asked the lady at the desk about the moving of QFLink and the closure of the QP. She first said in a whisper - "how do you know?". Gave a generic answer of "the internet.". She said that the staff were really going to miss having T2 QP on the roster as it was a nice change from T3 QPs. She also said that the staff call it "the day spa".

I timed the walk from the T3 J lounge to the T2 JQ gates, and it works out at about 15 mins with light security. So of marginal benefit, unless you have time to burn. I think I won't be taking JQ out of SYD if there are other options.
Looks like the only time I will be flying J* ex Sydney now will be on JQi;). Thanks for doing the timed walk from T3 J lounge to the T2 JQ gates..... so to allow for long security Qs, you will need to start heading out about 40 minutes prior to your J* flight:shock::evil:

Re: Qantas t2 moving to t3

Yes, I realise that now after the existing thread was merged with this one, makes it perfectly clear. But not clear when the original subject was cryptic.

I didn't see the original topic. But the post itself contains all the info required. Just saying.

When arriving T1 I always hated flying from T2 as it meant that if I transferred on the QF bus I would have to go through security twice, once leaving the T1 to the bus and then from T3 going to T2. So much so in the recent past that I usually paid 5 bucks to take the train which comes out closer to T2 and go through security once.
At least now if QantasLink flies from T3 it makes the transfer bus more of an option

If you don't have any bags to check in, you can always go through the security line on the lower floor where there is rarely a queue and save some time. JV

I use the T2 lounge about once a month before my JQ (price-matched flight vs Tiger) to MEL. That must make me "beyond-a-bogan" status according to some. I will certainly miss the lounge.
As a WP (yes, I'm a "W" as well as "beyond-a-bogan") I'd flown into T2 and had time to kill before my transport arrived so I headed over to T3 for the J lounge with my JQ arrival BP. The dragon told me in no uncertain terms that JQ flights left from T2. When I mentioned that I had come off an arriving flight she stuck her nose up and said "we don't normally allow entry to JQ passengers"!! She walked away when I tried to explain that it was an entitlement....far too busy to talk to me.

For the return journey to MEL I used JQi and the First Class Lounge (is this the JQ lounge that an earlier poster was referring to? ;)). (How could they possibly let a "beyond-a-bogan" in? Shameful.) The JQ flight was virtually empty so a very nice experience and one that I'll be trying to use more often with T2 QP closing. I just hope that the T3 dragon gets used to coping with the arrival of more JQ passengers.

A very brief visit to T2 lounge right now, watching flights take off and land East - West is a rarity. Gunnedah here I come! Only 1 more visit left for me to T2 in 3 weeks. Can't say I will miss it! :)

I too won't miss T2. Flew SYD to CNS Thursday 0600. No newspapers and not even Qantas' inflight magazine. Breakfast was okay. Coffee machine was being cleaned. One staff at the desk, another for catering.

I was in the Sydney T2 lounge this morning and asked one of the "dragons" when the lounge was likely to close.....15th July is the current date but it could change.

Finally it is happening!

They are working on the apron areas on Monday at the jet base indicating its almost done! It will be interesting to watch the queues waiting for an aircraft to clear the taxiway after pushback from gates 1-13, its already a choke point.

Can't they drive around the other side of the hangars? Or perhaps I'm thinking of somewhere else/it's been too long!

Not enough wing clearance on Boeing Rd.

I guess the airplanes can park wherever appropriate and the buses will continue to transport pax from/to gate.

I am currently sitting at the SYD T3 QP and it looks like the ground handling staff are practising the loading/unloading procedures at gate 8 with the covered stairs. VH-QOE is the aircraft which was towed to the gate.

Last report I had in T3 DOM J lounge was that the recent rain was slowing the planned maintenance work that needed to happen to allow the flights to move to T3. But that it was "soon".

Yes - over the few weeks I have seen lots of buckets on the floor and leaks in the T2 terminal (especially around and below recent works in the VA lounge and VA gates) so I imagine that any construction in T3 will be having a similar effect as it is in T2.

I used the T2 QP for the first time last Sunday and (call me a masochis_ if you like :) ) I was pleased to have visited it before it closes (and I haven't followed this thread, so was unaware it was even being closed). Nothing flash, but functional enough.

It did the job and always interesting to see the Akubra brigade. Wonder how they will go with the T3 lounge. :D

Looking forward to finding a seat in the lounge! Nice to drop the short-cut walk btw coaches/smokers btw T2 and T3. Would love to drop the bus rides as well although watching new passengers push forward to find a bus waiting is always enjoyable.
