All Qantaslink flights to depart SYD T3 from August 15th 2013

Received some emails today re slight change of flight times for some afternoon Qantaslink flights SYD-PQQ from the beginning of next week. I wondered if they were tweaking the timetable to accommodate the change to T3. Won't make much difference with this flight 1540 as it tends to get get caught up in some congestion and tends to leave closer to 1600 anyway. New time is 1605. The eticket still refers to T2 though even for flights in June.

DBO-SYD afternoon flight QF2047 will *sometimes* leave at 1655 rather than 1730 from April but I think this relates to when a faster Q400 rather than dash8-300 is flying (not due change in Sydney from T2 to T3). The earlier time doesn't leave much time for a day trip to Dubbo, the alternative is the Rex 1830 flight but there are rumours of Rex pulling out of Dubbo because they can't afford the new fees for the new airport security (which in turn are due to Qantas adding Q400 planes). The inconsistency of flight times is also irritating as hard to book a day of appointments with a different a Schedule each week.

Given the kerfuffle this week when somebody posted that Qantas was doing away with Any Seat Awards, without citing any source, sending AFF into a tiz until RedRoo stepped in to set things straight, is it too much to ask for a source to determine the veracity of this thread?

As far as I can see it is all based on a single unsubstantiated post which started the thread:

Qantas link flights will soon be boarding from Gate 1 in T3 with buses to the hardstand parks near the hangers, meaning T2 will no longer have any Qantas flights, not certain if the T2 QP will remain, I expect not.

That was back in January, now it's the end of March and still no official confirmation from Qantas. Is it too much to ask the OP, Markis10, to shed some light on the basis for this claim so we don't end up running in circles chasing what could be another unfounded rumour?

The international transfer desk and lounge, currently opposite Gate 1 at Sydney Domestic Terminal (T3) will relocate to Gate 15 from Monday March 04th 2013

The relocation of the desk is to accommodate the move from T2 to T3 of all Qantaslink services in late April.

Did you miss the above quoted QF staff memo covering off the subject posted Feb 1???

No I did not, but that post from TheInsider does not identify that information as coming from a Qantas staff memo?

Well AFAIK staff haven't been advised anything as yet (locally maybe), but the rest, not as yet.

The above post was before the previously quoted post indicating possible comms, so it's not just my info that has been part of the thread, it's also being discussed here: QantasLink Moving From T2 to T3 - Sydney Airport Message Board

If your looking for info based on press releases then your only covering maybe 5% of the discussion here, websites like etravel blackboard etc may be more satisfactory for you.

Nonsense. I have flights SYD-PQQ-SYD and received emails advising of changes today, as well. However, both still state T2.

Given the move of the international transfer desk was to happen earlier this month and has not would seem to indicate the plan has stalled from the timelines indicated, at the end of the day the demise of the RB211 workshop and resultant freed apron space means such a move makes sense, time will tell if it happens, I suspect April will be when we see official confirmation if it does.

I would note that markis10 is off to Dubai next week which would suggest that QF is happy with the general practices here.
I haven't been a member long but for me I'm happy with this being a discussion board. I guess these sorts of changes may be based on a long chain of developments and I guess we should not be surprised if an email arrives saying things have changed.
Personally I have T2 just about worked out with no waiting at security, straight to the lounge and boarding just in time. When there are changes I'll probably be sorry to see it go.

Qf link flights will be moving to T3. It's a project called 'Project Homecoming'

I think there have been a few setbacks with SACL.

Gate 15, which ironically was once the Qantaslink gate before all but the Canberra flights moved to T2.
And before that the home of Eastern (J31s), Compass and East West.

Really? I thought they (Eastern in particular) were in the older area where the Canberra dash flights leave from, which is gates 16 and 17.

There were across where all three gates now are, this was before the QF terminal extension and before they were a QF/ TAA entity.

Interesting that some others have received emails re changes but I seem to be still waiting for advice re our May flights

I have only recd emails for the change in the 1540 flights. No emails for the later flight. The reason it occured to me that it might be related to this thread is that there are half a dozen qantaslink flights leave close to this time from t2 at the moment. If you were moving to a single gate in t3 then you might space these out a bit more.

Here is an article from the QantasLink "Spirit" Inflight Magazine for Autumn 2013:
"QantasLink is planning a move of terminals from Sydney Airport's T2 to the main T3 Terminal used by Qantas mainline services. The move will provide considerable benefits for QantasLink travellers using Sydney Airport giving easier access for connections on other Qantas Domestic flights and access for Qantas Club members to the Club Lounge and Business Lounge in T3.

The enhanced customer experience for QantasLink passengers will also allow for more streamlined operations for the airline. A team from the airline's engineering, catering, ground operations and customer experience divisions have been working together to find the best way to integrate QantasLink's operations into T3. The integration is planned to take place during the second quarter of 2013."

I don't like to whinge (though obviously am), but I think I prefer the T2 QP over T3 in Sydney... just often seemed less crowded when I've been there. Also tends to be less "suit-jerks" too important to wait their turn (though I mostly found them in the J lounges).

Though I guess if I ever get back to Plat again, it would mean I could use the J lounge more easily (though this isn't always that much better than the QP IMO)... also a lot better for transfers to non-regional Qantas flights. It will just make things even more crowded in the QP Terminal 3 too I suppose.

Overall I can see the sense (especially without lounge access - for connecting flights), but I actually like a bit of space in a QP before spending hour(s) in close quarters with a bunch of strangers mere cm away. I guess I could do the opposite of what I did a few times in the past - and go chill in the T2 QP before heading over for a T3 flight (but it really doesn't bother me that much, I was mostly just keen to use the J lounge a few times while Plat and I don't know that it really impressed me enough over the QP to think it is worth going for again).

"Suit jerks"... wow.

Just because we fly in suits for work and access the J Lounge.

I for one will be glad I don't have to endure bogans in T2 in short shorts, singlets and thongs.
