Alaskan tickets on Qantas aircraft ?

some Australian friends living near LA, are flying home for Xmas, on AS tickets on Qantas metal. They said it was quite a bit cheaper than getting Qantas tickets.

I know it's often cheaper to buy tickets from the code share partner.

eg. NZ ticket on UA metal SYD/LAX/SYD or Virgin ticket on DL metal SYD/LAX/SYD

but can you buy eg. SYD/LAX/SYD on AS ticket on Qantas metal ?

Typically paid codeshares are more expensive, and often have no seats at lowest fare classes - eg. QF codeshares on many EK metal flights but it will depend on the exact agreement between the two airlines.

A quick look on LAX-SYD only showed me flights via SFO.

Wonder if you can still get those SFO-SYD prices for a one way journey? Often if you change the availability from return to one way the SFO-SYD fares would skyrocket.
