Be great if one could redeem purchased AS miles on SQ.
That would seem to one of the intended outcomes, as always the devil will be in the details, i.e.
- what's the redemption rate (Alaskan rates are generally good but will they be here)
- will there be premium cabin availability (because we all know SQ is not notoriously generous to its partners in this regard)

Big news (and great news) for the AS program.

As someone who redeems SQ though using Krisflyer miles - not so stoked if it means increased competition for premium seats (esp Asia - Australia).

Still, the devil will be in the detail! :)

9 months later, we still can't redeem Alaskan miles for SQ flights. Not holding my breath for this to ever happen... :(

I sent an email to Mileage Plan last week asking how much longer this was going to take, given SQ awards had been "coming soon" for more than 2 years! A few days ago I received a stock-standard reply that they had nothing to announce at this time.

Sure enough though, SQ awards are now available to book using Mileage Plan miles! Finally!

In the article on One Mile at a Time, a couple of comments stated that until this change it was possible to do PVG-SIN-LHR-SIN with a stopover in London for just 35K in F. I had never seen or heard of that gem.

Just read it. Devastating! At least I’ve got one last hurrah using intra-Asia stopover next year.

I was a little off: you could do that trip for 35K but couldn't stop over (not that that would have bothered me).

Really? Are SQ releasing F inventory to AS? They are famous for not releasing any F inventory to partners (perhaps except VA).

Apparently, yes:

I believe the catalyst was the addition of Singapore Airlines as a redemption partner, which happened one week ago. Although the award chart represented dubious value*, Mileage Plan members had access to SQ’s “forbidden cabins“- First and Business Class seats which were normally not available to partner airlines.

Apparently, yes:

Thanks, good to know. I should make AS my program of choice, it serves SIN-MEL/SYD/BNE really well - covers all the full service carriers who serve those three routes (QF, EK, SQ & BA) and also excellent coverage of Europe with those four plus Finnair, JL and CX.
