So what’s the overall agenda here?

Is he putting himself out there for a new job? It’s been a few years now and he hasn’t appeared elsewhere. I get a feeling many boards are just too nervous getting him involved in any business. Not everyone wants executives in the press every week, and facing senate hearings.

I see the IATA job vacated by Willie Walsh (went to Indigo) has now been filled. The other big job on the market at the moment is the Air India job.

Also, as per the book and interview, he was planning to “retire” in 2020 - coinciding with the QF 100 year anniversary. Covid and the Chairman asking him to say on scuppered that.

Former Qantas chief executive Alan Joyce says he wants to make a return to corporate life and has plenty to offer, insisting that the airline’s major investors weren’t complaining about his actions as profits soared despite the anger from regulators and customers that led to his abrupt departure.

I actually liked that one liner 'not match fit' obviously can see it would annoy many and media jump on it but was quite humourous and I could see the angle.

I read that this morning in the AFR and was moderately surprised, although if you’ve been a CEO basically occupied 100% of the time, it must be very difficult to suddenly switch off and have no one reporting to you - no deadlines, no nothing. You probably run out of ways to spend your fortune fairly quickly too.

Most CEOs in his position could look forward to other board roles or patronages being offered. I think he had to give up some sort of arts role as the scandal unfolded?

Maybe he and Goyder could team up and start something?

It might have been a reason if it had been true.

The extraordinary lines and delays weren’t caused by people failing to take out laptops, it was a lack of staff for security and the like. Remember lines of 2+ hours for syndey for example.

All blamed on ‘lack of staff’, oh and ‘we didn’t think travel would rebound this quickly’, and ‘supply chain issues’.

The only people not ‘march fit’ were the airlines.
