Re: New Virgin Campaign

Yes Medhead we will have to share a drink. You can tell your story and then I will tell you what happened to me after the election and why I hold a former PM in utter contempt.
And by the way it wasn't the Liberal/National party in those days it was the National party and the Liberal party. The Nationals held the Liberals in as much contempt as the ALP as I also found out.
Yes anat01 big boy politics is much worse than the Uni clubs. At Uni though I belonged to the United Liblab party.Unfortunately it didn't last long.

UQ student politics have been ever thus. I'm trying to remember the presidents name back in 87/88. Vicki someone, maybe.

I only said liberal/national as I'm not sure who did what. Certainly, the sitting member was the liberal leader at the time. But I'm pretty sure nationals were responsible for some of the later carry on. So it was a joint effort.

Well he is. It was a bit of a cheap shot attempt to gain free publicity. Mercedes are far from being saints....

Re: New Virgin Campaign

The alternative my friend is a lot worse!!!

You mean to say that the best we can do is a chaotic political quagmire littered with unpunished white collar crime?

That is embarrassing. :( It's basically the same as the quoted alternative, except in the latter, cases of intransigence are much more explicit and pronounced. In our system, we cover them up and twist the legal system to effectively silence it with a pile of denial - if they were similarly "visible" as in those other forms of government, we'd probably be doing worse than they are.

That case it may be, are we supposed to deem this as acceptable?

I'm embarrassed to admit that that is the best we can do.

And we are supposed to believe that the people who are studying politics are training to be immoral, faceless, snide backstabbers? They are the people being fostered to lead this country in the future? They are going to continue the example set by the current politicians?

I smell a thread split coming too (unless Playground is too off-topic to be bothered with); or possibly a pawning off to FT OMNI P/R.

It appears so.

We shouldn't but most unfortunately dont give a damn.

I'm embarrassed to admit that that is the best we can do.
I concur

I think you are not far from the truth.

Well this subject is political so everything is OT and we are in the playground.

True - but it helps to eat your meals one mouthful at a time, so muddying the waters with the more general left/centre/right issues is not really helpful, and Medhead's conspiracy theory about his lost dog has absolutely nothing to do with AJ.

What is more interesting is the backlash against the backlash. So Mercedes Benz are being gutless by refusing to finance the 2GB/AJ grubby little crusade against Julia Gillard? Interesting viewpoint, and it indicates to me that they still have no idea why this is happening. The word clueless springs to mind. Funny how he doesn't describe Tony Abbott as being gutless for running as far away from this issue as he can get. Into the arms of a whole bunch of useless women at that!

Just had to refresh my memory but caloundra was represented by the Country/National party from 1950-1990.Sir Frank Nicklin and Mike Ahern were the two and both at some stage led their party. It wasn't until 1990 that Joan Sheldon won the seat for the liberals and yes she became leader of the libs. You must be a lot younger than I had imagined-though I did think you 20+ years younger than me.
PS-very irrelevant but in 1994 our little dog wandered from our home at Wurtulla and was never seen again.

I didn't take much from that article except the SULC event list at the top, where I thought, "Are they for real?"

All that was missing was "Julia Gillard assassination day at shooting range - BYO JG dummy".

I read it as Mike Carlton had his tongue firmly in cheek - it is either brilliant satire or maybe the truth? If you can't tell for sure - safe to assume satire is being employed....

Given that it is satirising a university environment and a political one, and given the length of text employed for the satire is unnaturally long, it's either leading a very long leash or it is real.....

There is a significant group of folk out there who are not particularly partisan, and who have contempt for those that are so.
These same people are dismayed by the ravings of undereducated fools, racists, nationalists and religious extremists and theists...........but they tolerate the often harmful noises of these ignorant folk. This is so that the concept of Freedom of Speech is preserved. However sometimes one of the loons forgets himself and says something really nasty. It seems with the advent of social media, the folk who normally just sit on the sidelines and roll their eyes, have decided to come out with the baseball bats; and I for one am encouraged by this turn of events.

And they've started:

What's the difference between Alan Jones and Schapelle Corby?

Mercedes still supports Schapelle.

:)

I only stumbled across this today. I thought it was a funny and award moment!

Pity you don't have one of the CFMEU dinner where they had a top notch comedian saying lovely things about TA & his chief of staff :!:

Wonder why there wasn't a huge media outcry:confused: Maybe a boycott & a Facebook hate page of the CFMEU is in order:?:

Really wouldn't add much more to the general distaste of the CFMEU as it is right now, though that comedian had better hope their name doesn't get too widely out, otherwise they may be seen in public again only in small bits, six feet under the ground.

There was no media outcry because the labour party apologised for the joke by the comedian. Reports in the media also say that the crowd went quiet after the joke and some walked out whereas people were laughing after the Alan Jones comments at the liberals event.
