You mean you haven't seen (or shown karens) the Hilton Lake Taupo photo's (actually, some of these don't do it true justice - you need to see straitman's photo's - you can do that next Monday night).

That should whet your respective appetites .

Had a look there, but couldn't get a good idea of what it was really like.

straitman, make sure you bring them for me to look at!

They're on his iPhone so they should be in attendance on Monday night (unless he downloaded them elsewhere and has then deleted).

I deleted them as I didn't want to be reminded of my lack of Intl travel...

I'm going to live vicariously through your travels, Flashware and karens.

Especially when we have a domestic over navigation and driving ability!

Flashware has agreed to drive on Anzac Day woo hoo! I wonder what I'll have to do in return? Probably something like not being drunk until after lunchtime on the 25th

:D....I thought that is what GPS's are for?? As for driving ability, I'll leave that well alone ;)

It's been 11 years since I last saw Lake Taupo, but I remember it as an amazing place. The township is pretty boring though from recollection (I was on Contiki at the time and I think the furtherest we got from our hotel was the first Bottlo we saw and perhaps a food place ... Drink purchases all done, we headed back to the hotel for one of those "Contiki" drinking nights.).

Well, on my recent trip to Burrill Lake, I actually drove from there to Sydney along the fun windy road through Kangaroo Valley. No complaints from the passenger!

Reminds me of my Contiki in NZ! :p Sounds like 2 full days of relaxing around the hotel and it's facilities and enjoying my company ;)

For those of you who have booked through Vroom Vroom Vroom before ; did you still earn points on the rental? It comes in about $50 cheaper than booking with Hertz.

Yeah, I got points from Thrifty (700 to be precise)

Cool. I just had a look on Thrifty's NZ website, and they have 25% off right now so ended up booking direct rather than through VVV.

Looks like I saved around $120 NZD all up.

So that's about AUD$10 at present.... (there's your free bottle of wine for karens)
(actually, based on exchange rate of $1AUD to $1.30NZD I saw last night, it's a little more)

I think AUD 10 is not even house wine level, LW. Try again!

However, AUD 10 of fuel is nothing to sneeze at (unless you hired a hummer or SUV).

My wife told me to get her something expensive.
I got her a tank of petrol.
And then the fight started....

Wine for me - yay! :D

I am making Flashware dine at Logan Brown so there goes all the money we've been saving in other ways.

Flashware has been trying to teach me how to quote more than one post at once. Here's hoping it works:!:

And I just booked my flights on Lan in J for US$635.30.

Are you sure that's not AUD? And is that ex-SYD or ex-AKL return?

Just seems a wee steep, that's all......

The Aussie version of the site wants over $1000 Aussie now.

It's ex-SYD and my booking is in US$. I forwarded the confirmation email to Flashware so he can vouch for me.

Ah fair enough. That explains it all.

Still, good value flights and good new, refreshed cabin. Just don't expect the food to be all that crash hot (I'm assuming LAN J still serve the pedestrian two sandwiches and plate of fruit).

The breakfast coming out of AKL isn't too bad, though.

How exciting, everything is booked except our 2nd night in Napier. Can't wait now.

I told my colleague who is a kiwi that I'll be flying Lan and she got all excited telling me the food is great but the flight is at an awful hour. I'll just be happy to down a few glasses of bubbly :D

I'm already trying to plan my outfit. Had it all worked out then realised that it's hand wash only!

Flight from SYD to AKL is alright time, but food is nothing great. I believe you get served what they call a "snack".

Flight from AKL to SYD sports an OK breakfast (hot variety includes an omelette with sides with fruit), but that is - what you refer to as - the departure at an awful hour.
