Glad I've never been on a flight with a scared flight attendant.

http://www.smh.com.au/news/world/airliner-panic-were-going-to-crash/2006/03/01/1141095780416.html

An investigation will be held after passengers complained that a flight attendant screamed "we're going to crash" during a turbulent flight.

The complaints arose after a Virgin Atlantic Boeing 747 jumbo jet, with 451 passengers on board, hit severe turbulence over Greenland during a flight from London to Las Vegas last Friday.

Businesswoman Claire Daley told London's Daily Mail: "She [the flight attendant] screamed every time we dropped and at one point chanted three times 'We're going to crash'".

The attendant must have missed the "don't panic in front of the customers" day of training.

Seriously, don't they test these people before they employ them? This could have been much worse...

We are talking Virgin Atlantic ... I am sure the testing is very thorough, but probably focused more on other criteria essential to the roll as a VS FA.

Nonsense, haven't you read their press?

Vermin is an "equal opportunity employer" - it's just that some ditzy blondes are more equal than others....

Well, I guess Vermin is a bit of a farm (of the animal variety, by George).

My personal favorite when traveling with newbies is to explain that "everything will be OK I should know because I fly all the time"

I then look out the window pretend to see something bad and start saying the lords prayer.

"I'm sure there were two engines on that wing when we set off!" normally does the trick.

Even better when on a 737. When they think I am taking the piss and check they see only one engine. At this point I ask them which way to Mecca as I just want to cover all the bases.

Or when the flaps are extended to the point where you can see right through the wing, make a comment along the lines "OMG, the wing is falling apart!"

Interesting article...reminded me of the Chopper Read "ChopAir" video :D

If you haven't seen it, PM me and I'll email to you. I'll warn you it's big file (5.37MB) and expect a lot of profanity. But Mrs LW and I both enjoyed it...

... don't assume the crash position, assume the cough*** worst. you can crouch down all you like, we're still hitting the ground and 900 hundred kilometers an hour, cough*** bang! ...

flash cough*** flash ... Toot cough*** toot ...

very funny indeed.

there is also a video of Chop doing the weather, and that is just as funny. i am currently getting a couple of others also. i can send them to anyone who would like a copy, just let me know.

i am also reminded of a classic Gary Larson 'The Farside' comic.

I think (but not sure) these Chopper skits are part of a show called The Ronnie Johns Half Hour, screened (in MEL at least) on Ch 10 on Sunday nights. Wherever they're from, I've seen ChopAir and another involving "Chopper" auctioning classic artworks...very funny.

Well I remember back in late 1991 I was on a cruise with my family on the Achille Lauro and one of the movies they played every other night was "The Hijacking of the Achille Lauro". :)

I don't think they will be playing any Flying High/Flight Plan/Plane Crash movies on planes anytime soon though. Hehe

Regards
Daniel

Never seen a flight attendant panic put I have seen one be sick on board due to turbulence...

I was on Ansett flight from Launceston to Melbourne back in 1989 when a very strong cold southerly change whipped through Bass Strait after a week of 35 degree summer heat. The arriving aircraft had to do a go round very close to the point of no return after appearing briefly below the very low cloud base.

The arriving passengers looked much the worse for wear. When we boarded we had to put ALL hand luggage in lockers - no loose items.
It turned out to be the roughest flight of my life.

One of front flight attendents was white as a sheet, obviously very shaken up, sipping water to ease presumed nausea, etc

There was a thread somewhere about a Dash 8 flight where one of the crew was quite pale as well.
