Hi all

I am booked to fly Qantas to Sydney then Aircalin to Noumea (Qantas all the way return) in April next year. Its Qantas all the way back to Melbourne.

The AirCalin leg is 2.5 hours and I might be able to upgrade with my Qantas points.

My question is - should I? Is it worth it for a relatively short flight or should I save my points for a longer trips? Will I get a lie flat bed on such a short trip?

If you were doing this trip would you bother with the upgrade?

cheers Peter

You can only upgrade on Qantas aircraft, with a QF code, with Qantas points. You'll be able to upgrade your domestic leg if available, but not the Aircalin leg.

Ok that rules out the AirCalin leg. What about the return Qantas leg NOU-SYD. Worth the upgrade?

The NOU-SYD flight is blocked at 3h 20m. I wouldn't bother, especially if I could secure a seat in row 4. It is just a recliner in business on QF's B738.

Why Row 4? The flight is a Boeing 737-800 (Winglets). Rows 4 and 5 are greyed out. I do not know if they are economy or business class seats.

All QF 737s are the same in Y. Row 4 is the first row in Y and has a lot of extra legroom. And you get served first. But it's usually blocked for non-status pax until close to departure (eg T-80).

What Austman said. :)

Just stay in Economy, its too short a journey. We have done it a few times and it great fun on Air Calin, the FA are very funny.
I love New Caledonia its great for a holiday. We stay at the Le Meridian at Ante Vasta, if you can or haven't yet take the helicopter flight good way to see Noumea.
