The B777 does have similar (maybe the same) ADIRU units. ie the units are not actually manufactured by Boeing or Airbus but are manufactured for Boeing and Airbus. A lot of components are the same or similar between types.

I am guessing you are referring to the BA038 incident? There were reasons behind that and go-arounds that have been developed.B777's do other exciting things, like have engines that shut down for no apparent reason.

Its easy to have someone walk on board wearing a uniform and sit up front for the duration of the flightI don't see it happening anytime soon, perhaps not even in our lifetimes...it's not that the technology isn't there or couldnt be refined further to make it safer than a human pilot, but the general public would never accept getting on a plane with no pilot IMO.
