AirAsia anyone?

I've flown Air Asia X to Kuala Lumpur a couple of times, and also within Asia to coughet & Chang Mai.

The fares were super cheap, the service was friendly - in one case a little TOO friendly, as i had a steward offer me drinks and ask me on a date.

The meals were ok & the comfort pack has a nice blanket which came in handy while freezing in BKK in transit trying to catch a nap on their metal seats.

The LCC terminal at KL airport is ok - there is a "Plaza Premium Lounge" that's quite cheap to access (I think i paid about $25) with food, internet, comfy chairs & fab massage recliner.

I'd fly Air Asia again for a cheap deal - and probably also check out their affiliated "Tune" motels.

Re: AirAsia anyone? Anyone brave enough to go the whole way with them

Anyone brave enough to go all the way to London with Air Asia? Would have thought with those prices it would be attractive to some.
Not likely in this lifetime but I am sure there is someone out there brave enough who will try it and report back....

In Feb 08 we flew with Air Aisa to Bangkok, Chang Mai/Rai and coughet. Sure, its a budget airline and the 737's are starting to date... but they are reliable.
We did all our booking on-line from Australia first - with flights averaging out at about $40-50 Aussie dollars.

THE BEST ADVICE.....Buy the "Express Boarding" option. I've just checked on Air Asia's website for you - and the fee is only 150BHT - a HUGE $6.70 Australian! So make sure you take up this option. You get given a sticker and then board the aircraft first and get to choose your seat - otherwise you'll be caught in the the cattle herd. We were quite surpirsed at how many people who didnot take up tjis option - there was always just a handful with EB stickers. Also, check out the Thai's version of "cabin baggage". Its amazing what they bring on board - fully fledged suitcases, candy bags... anything goes, and as long as it fits in the overhead lockers there doesnt seem to be a drama.

But seriously, for just $7 - save time, stress and the risk of being trampled and purchase the Express Boarding option - sure it may be a bit of a money grab - but the flight is cheap and safe.

I wholeheartedly concur with this....otherwise you have to start queuing 45 minutes before the plane arrives, and join in the mad scum to the plane! If you have EB, you can sit and relax until the plane is ready for boarding, be amongst the first to board, and have a huge choice of seats...a la exit row seats, with plenty of leg room!!

G`Day,

Flew with AirAsia last year from SIN to KUL at the height of the Bangkok troubles with aircraft being diverted from BKK to SIN and their aircraft being out of sync but had no problems at all. Friendly and helpful, informed me (via SMS) that due to the problems in BKK the flight would be departing 30mins late.

Big plus for me is that they use T1 in SIN, good for connections with QF and BA
Big minus they use the LCC terminal at KUL….. chaos complete.

Used Tiger on the return leg, now that a different story….they changed my flight 4 times including a flight that would have got me into SIN after my flight with QF had left!. Phoned them after waiting, how long I´don’t know, got through to their call centre, explaining that I would miss my connection, agreed to put me on a earlier flight but wanted to charge me not only a service fee but because the fare was more expensive I would have to pay the difference!!!!!!. By this time I got “a little hot under the collar” and asked to transfer me to her superior, to make a long story short he agreed that the service fee and fare difference be waived after, should I say a “very heated discussion” to say the least.

Saying that, the actual flight was good, aircraft clean and of course you have to pay for any drinks or food as with any low cost airline.

One word of warning regardless if you fly out of KUL with AirAsia or Tiger they both leave from the LCC terminal leave plenty of time to clear passport and security….its generally mayhem.

Kind regards, Traveller F

Not all LCCs.

Just over 5 years ago we got chicken or pork with rice and water on coughet Air return flights BKK-HKT. And Aegean Airlines manages to serve nuts and a glass of soft drink on the ~45 minute flight ATH-SKG.
