Air New Zealand's in-flight magazine is back from this month, both in aircraft seat pockets and online.

The previous edition was in April 2020 and celebrated the airline's 80th birthday.

I just had a quick flick through. I wish more airlines would make their inflight magazines available online. Airline geeks like me like the maps, airline news and fleet info. I did notice that they have been very keen to advertise places to visit in New Zealand, I know that people can't really travel overseas at the moment so I guess its only NZ destinations that they can write about. Unless they were to feature articles that are not directly linked to travel. It did feel a bit like a New Zealand Tourist board brochure.

I love a good route map and fleet guide, but I do think in 2020 printed magazine are somewhat redundant on all airlines. save the $ and the trees and send it to pax digitally.

I guess it depends on the airline. A few years ago I read an article about Ryanair and that claimed that their inflight magazine cost them nothing. As the advertisements covered the cost. In Europe airlines like Aer Lingus, Ryanair, easyJet and British Airways offer a buy on board service for food and drinks and some of them sell perfume, chocolate, gifts etc. To do that they need to have a way to advertise what they are trying to sell. Up until recently thats been via a few pages in the inflight magazine or a separate menu brochure. I guess they could put these things on a app but I wonder how that would effect their sales?
