Air NZ has a daily grabaseat sale which offers seats on lightly loaded flights at bargain prices. Mostly domestic, the routes vary every day. Every few days trans-tasman or south pacific is included also.

Today the first longhaul flight was included. AKL-LAX return for NZ$496 including taxes. Travel May-June, min 1 night stay, max 5 nights. Will sell out in the next couple of hours or so.

Today's longhaul deal is AKL-PVG return NZ$498. 5 day max stay. 17 May to 17 June. Non mileage earning.

LAX sold out in under an hour. I'd expect this one to be gone in the next 30 minutes.

These deals are quite reasonable even travelling from Aus if one can find a connecting fare across Tasman for around $400-500 AUD.

Qantas have advertised a MEL-WLG (sale: today & tomorrow) for $225 ex MEL ($190 return?); travel May1 'til Aug 31.

Unfortunately, either is sold out or the fares have not been loaded.

When I posted that it was not showing up; but this afternoon the fares seemed available for every flight.

Looking now I saw irregular availablity; eg June 30 to WLG and Jul 1 Back; total CC cost 425.
