Air New Zealand FF program

Very nice!

Anyone booked this? Just wondering if the tripleSP show up during the booking or if it's only after you've booked them they show up. There is a section in the Air NZ account that shows potential and bonus earnings. Wondering if it shows up there after the booking?

Think it's for Aussies. Fair enough I guess, you don't have the credit card options. Never seen this response to the Qantas and VA DSC offers before but it makes sense. They're taking all the forward bookings!

Previous ones have been targetted - if you didn't get the email then you won't get any bonus SP.

The bonus does not show up during booking, but does show up in the potential earnings for future flights box when logged in.

Hi, Adele here (I wrote the TCM blog post linked here a few posts back).I booked CHC-AKL-ADL for next week (in line with the Touch of Gold anniversary date, I literally have a 2 day window to use the offer!), and the 'bonus' of 302 Status Points is showing up below the standard 151. This will get me over the line (just) for the 450 I need by 6th March.

FYI, a new Air NZ Triple Status Points promo has been released: Air New Zealand launches new Triple Status Points offer

As with the previous promotion, this offer looks to be targetted to those who received the email, and is for residents of Australia and NZ.

Also a quick update on the TSP flights I took last month, after leveraging the previous promotion. The TPSs credited whilst I was in the air (wow!) and I can confirm that a domestic sector I booked as part of a trans-Tasman itinerary (CHC-AKL) also credited with TPSs.

I was recently having a look at Air NZ's Star Alliance award chart.

Is Airpoints the only frequent flyer program with a distance-based award chart to use kilometres (not miles) to calculate the distance? Quite cheeky IMHO!

Ha! Yes, need to have the mileage calculator up in another tab. Although NZ - Asia and US are all pretty much in the 1300 and 1600 bands for business so easy to remember. Asia to Europe Singapore falls into the 1600 band although most of Asia - EU 1300 (was 1215).
Aussie - SIN/TPE in the 1000 bracket. Perth exceptions.

Whilst I think the triple SP is a great idea for Aussie it's really the APD earn which will be limiting although I find the reverse is true with Qantas/VA, earning from flying seems slow compared to credit card earn. I suspect most kiwis that earn APD via the cc and fly infrequently probably aren't aware of the partner award chart and use APD to fly NZ.

Can anyone direct me to a basic guide about AirPoints? My sister lives in NZ and says they put $100K annually through their CC earning airpoints but they only have $2k aipoints which doesn’t seem right to me. Maybe it’s the conversion rate on their CC? I think she’s shirty that I’m flying to Europe on points in J/F and they spend and fly more than me 😂

Their main destinations would be Australia, Hawaii and Europe. CHC is their closest airport. If Air NZ isn’t the best program, which would you suggest for them?

Air NZ airpoints is not a good ffp. Is a spend based earn & burn ffp.
Do they earn ff miles/points/avios from flying or spending?

However if they are flying AirNZ not a lot of options. Some AirNZ fares earn nil to very little on other Star Alliance ffps.
If they have an Amex card may be other airline options. If a NZ bank cc not many options. My NZ bank, Westpac, only has Air NZ as a partner.

The Air New Zealand Airpoints program works differently to most – but not in a good way. If you’d like to book award travel on Star Alliance, we would recommend using a better frequent flyer program such as Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer.

With this program, 1 Airpoints Dollar = $1. Dynamic pricing is used when redeeming Airpoints for Air New Zealand flights. This means that you can redeem your Airpoints Dollars for any available seat on Air New Zealand. But seats on more expensive flights require more Dollars. In particular, long-haul Business class awards are extremely expensive.

Frustratingly, Air New Zealand also won’t let you redeem your Airpoints Dollars unless you have enough to cover the entire cost of the airfare. You can’t part-pay for a flight using Airpoints. At the same time, you must be any taxes on award bookings using money – the airline won’t let you use Airpoints to cover those. <snip>
Bloggers (some overviews are poor)

From CHC, not many international airlines. NZ, QF, JQ, CX, EK, SQ, UA. Some are summer only and may not return for 2024_25 summer

[The could move to Aussie like the many 10 of thousands of us have already done.
In AU, NZ born people have a higher average income than AU born people]

Thanks, I’ll have a read and send them some info. No chance of moving to Australia…her husband is a kiwi and they own a dairy farm there.

So putting the business expenses on credit card? Get a NZ Amex (NZ web site)
150 Membership Rewards points = 1 Airpoints Dollar™
So 100,000 MR = 666 Air NZ points. Maybe 2 economy fares across the Tasman on low prices. Often more than $300 one way

Other airlines are 2 or 3 for 1 MR
100,000 MR = 33,333 QR qatar avios
100,000 MR = 50,000 QF Qantas points. Economy one way award across the Tasman is 18,000 plus taxes plus YQ($14?).

Guessing they are south of CHC
