Air India Delays/Cancellations

On Saturday 20 June 2020 during coronavirus, AI309 (0945 hours MEL - DEL) pushed back at 1047 and took off at 1103 hours. B788 VT-ANM should arrive at about 1837 hours, 57 minutes tardy. AI30-8 had been 23 late this morning arriving in MEL at 0723, so not sure why the outbound delay.

Monday 6 July 2020 has seen AI309, the 0945 hours MEL - DEL cancelled.

All three major east coast Oz airports have (individually) a 50 passenger per flight and overall for the day 450 passenger limit on international flights, so this is presumably leading to even further curtailments of flights (and passenger movements) from overseas.

On Sunday 19 July 2020 during coronavirus, AI1325, a MEL - DEL and unusually on to MAA, took off at 1057 (72 minutes after its timetabled 0945 hours midmorning departure). B788 VT-ANR should arrive at DEL at 1837, 57 minutes late. The second sector has the same flight number but appears to be a smaller aircraft.

AI301, the 0945 hours SYD - DEL on Friday 31 July 2020 was cancelled.

International airlines cannot carry any passengers inbound to MEL while for BNE and SYD, there are significant restrictions on numbers permitted per flight and per day, crimping revenue and profitability.

Identically to the previous post, on Saturday 1 August 2020, AI301 at the same suggested time was again cancelled.

Sunday 16 January 2022 sees AI1301, the 1015 hours SYD - DEL delayed until an expected 1230 in its departure. AI1302, the scheduled 0710 hours arrival in SYD is almost four hour late, being expected in at 1109, so that explains the delay.

1230 may prove to be optimistic.

Apparently India has (re?)imposed arrival caps. Thanks, blacksultan, for that information.

B788 VT-NAA on AI302, the 1415 hours mid afternoon DEL - SYD on Monday 31 January 2022 was airborne at 1436, about on time. However Tuesday 1 February arrival is predicted as 0757, 47 minutes late. AI301, the 0930 hours SYD - DEL is expected to depart at 1015 hours.

AI301, the morning 0915 hours SYD up to DEL was cancelled on Thursday 3 February 2022.

It's not just QFi cancelling on this route.

On Saturday 12 March 2022, AI302 (1445 hours DEL down to SYD, B788 VT-NAA) took off on time at 1505 but arrival on Sunday 13 was 0833, 83 minutes behind the eight ball.

AI301, the 1015 midmorning flight SYD - DEL was in the sky at 1117 with suggested arrival 1814, 49 minutes tardy.

B788 VH-ANT arrived in MEL on Thursday 31 March 2022 as AI308 at 0707 hours, only seven minutes late, ex DEL. However the returning AI309 (the 0945 hours, normally with a surfeit of time to turn around) was not in the sky until 1109 hours, so arrival in DEL should be at about 1725 hours, half an hour behind.

B788 VT-ANB on AI302, the 1820 hours Friday 1 April 2022 DEL - SYD took off on time at 1841 hours. according to FR24. However this is a mistake, as the flight ought have pushed back at 1410. Consequently, on Saturday 2, SYD arrival should be at 1200 'high noon', 230 minutes behind schedule.

This will delay AI301, the 1045 hours SYD - DEL to 1510 mid afternoon in departure.

On Good Friday, 15 April 2022, AI302, the 1355 hours afternoon DEL - SYD is expected to depart in eight minutes after I write, at 1720 hours local time. SYD arrival may be at about 1030 hours on Saturday 16, 210 minutes late. This will delay AI301, the 0945 hours SYD - DEL to at least 1155 hours in pushing back.

There is also an extra flight, AI1301 - confusing numbering - meant to depart SYD tomorrow at 1200 'high noon' but it is predicted to be off its blocks at 1430.

Down south in gloomy (weatherwise) Melbourne, AI309, the Saturday 0845 hours MEL - DEL is predicted to depart at lunchtime - 1230 hours.

B788 VT-ANP on AI301, the 0930 hours midmorning SYD - DEL on Thursday 22 April 2022 is still on the tarmac at SYD as at 1157 hours, so will be more than two hours late arriving in the Indian capital.

AI309 (Wednesday 27 April 2022, the 0845 hours MEL - DEL that unlike QFI's offering, does not stop in ADL northwest bound) took off at 1006 hours with B788 VT-NAC. Arrival should be at about 1738 hours, 43 minutes late.

Mother's Day (Sunday 8 May 2022) sees AI309, the 0845 hours MEL - DEL (B788 VT-ANZ) not airborne until 1031, so expected arrival has become 1818 hours, 83 minutes behind schedule. Its inbound (AI308) had been 90 late, arriving MEL at 0730 hours this morning.

While FR24 shows it as 'early' into SYD at 1102 this morning by 23 minutes, B788 VT-ANY on AI302 was really hours late as its normal departure from DEL is at 1355 rather than last night's 1820 hours. Accordingly, the Wednesday 25 May 2022 scheduled 0945 hours SYD - DEL (AI301) is expected to depart three hours late.

AI308 from DEL arrived in MEL on Sunday 29 May at 0723 hours, 22 minutes early but the return flight with B788 VT-NAC, the 0845 hours did not take off until 1027. Expected at gate arrival is 1827, 92 late. Adverse winds probably don't assist.
