Air India Delays/Cancellations

Sunday 20 March's AI301 (B788 VT-ANO) took off from SYD at 1121, 36 minutes after its pushback time. It should arrive DEL at about 1827, 37 minutes late.

Since AI has ceased its 'triangular' Australian routing (DEL - MEL - SYD - DEL or v.v., one three days a week, the other four), its punctuality appears to have shot up.

This is not the case on Easter Saturday (26 March 2016) when AI308 (B788 VT-ANI) is delayed in arriving in MEL until 0840 instead of 0700, 100 minutes tardy. As AI309, the return flight is not scheduled to depart until 1045, in theory it should depart on time.

As noetd above AI's punctuality into and out of Australia has improved but on Friday 8 April, AI301 (B788 VT-ANB) was timetabled to depart from SYD at 0945 but was not airborne until 1045, meaning a likely DEL arrival of about 1850 hours, 25 minutes late.

AI1308 is badly late into MEL on Thursday 19 May, with forecast arrival at 1035 instead of 0600 hours. Aircraft is B788 VT-ANH. The return AI309 (0945 hours MEL to DEL) is likely to depart at 'high noon' 1200 hours.

These DEL - SYD or MEL flights have become far more punctual since the previous triangular routing (DEL - MEL - SYD - DEL or v.v.) was discontinued.

The 0945 hours Friday 27 May 2016 SYD to DEL (B788 VT-ANJ) rook off at 1111 due to the delays from the strong westerlies in SYD and consequent runway restriction usage to 07. It should arrive at about 1910 hours, 45 minutes behind time.

AI301 (0845 hours SYD to DEL, B788 VT-ANB) took off at 1102 on Sunday 10 July with arrival predicted as about 1913, 48 minutes late.

On Tuesday 2 August, AI301, the 0945 hours SYD - DEL was not airborne until 1134, meaning arrival of its plane, B788 VT-ANA will be delayed until about 1950 this evening, 85 minutes late.

Since it did away with the triangular DEL - MEL - SYD - DEL routing or vice versa, AI has continued to be far more punctual. However on Monday 7 November 2016, the DEL - MEL AI308 due in at 0830 hours will instead arrive at about 0916 with B788 VT-ANU.

The Thursday 17 November 2016 1315 hours from DEL to SYD, AI302, is extremely late as it did not take off until 1824. On Friday 18, B788 VT-ANK should arrive at approximately 1134 instead of 0710, 264 minutes behind schedule.

The returning AI301 is the 1045 hours SYD - DEL that if all goes well should push back at around 1300 hours this afternoon.

Wednesday 23 November sees AI302, the 1315 hours Tuesday 22 November DEL - SYD that took off at 1500 hours, arriving at a suggested 0801, 51 minutes late with B788 VT-ANW.

AI302, the 1315 hours from DEL to SYD on Thursday 24 November (B788 VT-ANH) was airborne at 1550 hours. On Friday 25 November, it is arriving at 0837, 87 minutes behind schedule compared with the timetabled arrival of 0710.

On Saturday 26 November, due to the 30 per cent reduction in fuel availability at MEL due to a batch of imported fuel (from SIN) not meeting specifications, A!309 (the 1045 hours MEL - DEL) is being altered to operate via SIN for a fuel stop.

This will cost the airline thousands of dollars. What would India, soon to be the world's most populous country think of MEL's problems as a major, growing international airport that seemingly cannot provide sufficient redundancy in its fuel storage facilities to cope when a batch of imported fuel is unsatisfactory?

Awesom Andy or another AFF member may like to calculate the likely delay to this AI flight assuming a 45 minute fuel stop in SIN.

Sunday 27 November has AI301 (1045 hours SYD - DEL) having become airborne at 1111. However arrival is estimated to be 33 minutes behind time at 1823 for B788 VT-ANQ.

AI308, the mid afternoon Friday 2 December 1600 hours from DEL to MEL took off at 1713. On Saturday 3, B788 VT-ANC should arrive at 1011, 61 minutes late, delaying the returning flight that is due out off its blocks at 1045 hours with a revised time of 1150 being publicly displayed.

AI308 on Thursday 7 was airborne from DEL at 1617 (as compared to its scheduled 1500 hours pushback) so on Thursday 8 B788 VT-ANM should arrive in MEL at 0924 hours, 74 minutes tardy.

AI continues to have good timekeeping in the main: changing its routes from the previous DEL - MEL - SYD - DEL 'triangular' flights has worked well.

However on Wednesday 18 January AI302, the overnight from DEL to SYD should arrive at 0846 hours, 96 minutes late with B788 VT-ANI. AI301 returning is the one day of the four with a SYD flight that departs a little later, at a scheduled 1110, so it in theory should be able to push back on time.

Thursday 2 March 2017 sees B788 VT-ANJ on AI308 from DEL down to MEL arriving at around 0759 hours, 59 late.

B788 VT-ANPO on AI302, the overnight from DEL to SYD should arrive at 0751, 41 minutes late on Friday 10 March.

The often punctual AI is not so on Wednesday 19 April with AI301 (B788 VT-ANN, the 1045 hours SYD - DEL) not becoming airborne until 1409 this afternoon, so arrival is not likely until 2211 hours tonight DEL time, 166 minutes late.

AI continues to enjoy pretty good timekeeping into and out of SYD and MEL but Monday 22 May 2017 (when Border Force software was 'down' for Australian - only - passport holders, creating queues) is an exception.

AI309 was airborne from MEL at 1142, 117 minutes past its mandated departure time of 0945; arrival should be at around 1937, 102 minutes late tonight with B788 VT-ANN the taskmaster.
