AFF'rs come and go

My post count is shamefully low.
But my appreciation of the contributions of others is immeasurably high. :)

As young people say on social media, when quoting others with approval...

This.

I read far more than i post. JB explains pilot topics far more eloquently than I so i don't mind letting him have first (and often only) say.

There was a time (many years ago) that my post count was more than 10% of the total posts . But alas I now leave a lot of the posting to those with more to say than me. A reduced posting rate does not necessarily mean reduced interest or participation. In my case it often just means that others have already answered or contributed before I get there. And these days I purposely stay away from the off-topic controversial topics - I have learned that nobody is really interested in my opinions as they already have their own opinions that are not going to be changed my mine.

So I am content to read and restrict my posting to when and where it adds value to the discussion. Lots of people here know way more than me about most of the topics being discussed.

I guess this post will add to my post count...

I remind myself in many things "it's not a race".

Edit: And I still fail to understand how anyone finds the time to post at the frequency levels of the main contributors.
Must be way more time-efficient than I am!:)
Sit at your desk and look like you are working?

Seriously I do not watch any television. None at all. My hobby is 3-4 hours every night reading AFF and researching airfares, hotels etc from topics read. I try to contribute as much as possible. Discussion/debate is a good thing even if people don't agree with your opinion.

Regarding folks that come and go I feel that's been covered. Work commitments, different interests pop up, etc.

Talking about post counts is a different topic all together. A high post count doesn't mean much IMHO, the quality of posts is what counts. Can't say I've been here all that long however it's pretty clear who to pay attention to, and who to skip over.

As always, YMMV.

And yet we're only human and the competitive streak does arise in us all. ;)

On a serious note we all wax and wane with our interests and life gets in the way. This isn't the most important thing in your life (nor should it ever be).

As noted elsewhere people's jobs change, they get hitched/separated, have children etcetera. All of these things affect our ability to fly. When my work flying stopped I was fortunate to be able to increase my personal travel and hope to be able to do so for a few more years yet.

When it does wind down for what ever reason I may have less ability to constructively contribute but hope to still read. As for those who've left us, well thanks for your contribution and hopefully you pop in occasionally to see what you helped build.

Heya guys! I've been silent for a while but still pop in. Major factor was a change of job which meant I went from flying a couple of times a month to a few times a year. Frankly, it's a relief! I'm still interested though, which is while I still lurk from time to time. And have also made some lovely friends here.. :)
And yes at times one can feel more silent than other times. Yes, women can be quiet occasionally! Believe it or not! :p

I do miss bossreggie , markis10 and nycguy who were on this forum a while ago.
It is lovely to have serfty on board as he works flying to the max.

I agree, I'd add simongr to that list he's very much missed on here although he does occasionally pop up on Facebook.

A forum is not a forum if nobody speaks.

I speak my mind (perhaps too much) as I believe that I have learnt so much from AFF, I should give back where appropriate. Like all public forums, one has to be careful as to how much of a stake they place in various pieces of advice, but I truly believe most contributors do so genuinely. The biggest problem with forums is that quips said in jest can sometimes be taken as genuine criticism, so my advice to everyone (old and new participants) is to use and observe the emoticons....they are quite often the only indication of when someone is pulling your chain!

To all the regulars (past and present), I salute and thank you as I would not have been anywhere near as clued up with this dark art of frequent flying without you! Here's cheers (to missing friends as well)!
