AFF'rs come and go

I'm surprised I'm at #62 for all of 2015, didn't think I had made almost 600 posts this year! One thing I'm still not mastering at all is the ability to start threads on subjects which appeal to more than five people...:p

Thinking about what PF wrote some posts back about making friends and so forth, the best thing I ever did on AFF was to attend socials. I think that, overall, if more people came to socials we would have more active posters.

I miss me too when not posting ;)

Being the 3rd most tenured member (9 years 6 months) on page 4 of the Dec 2015 (and total 2015) post count says a bit about me I think. Though I have posted about twice as often as in 2014. I suspect I'm becoming more cynical as all the FF programs become "enhanced" and the personal travel budget gets changed to reflect retirement. And you can't explain rules which haven't even been announced (are you listening AA?).

I guess I wander too much but then these side trips allows me to keep serfty "honest" (once in a blue moon).:mrgreen:

Should I go find a corner to stand in instead of wandering?

Fred

I know you are a croweater..........but for heavens sake, you attend social gatherings???????????????????????? I though you were the social gathering!

Honestly Buzzard,I've been to many AFF gatherings and yours (at least the one I attended) are right up there with MunitalP's events. Bloody great, mate!

My activity on AFF is usually related to the amount of forward bookings I have, more flights = more research. Busyness at work is less of a factor as I can check AFF on mobile devices whilst commuting, awake at 3am rocking little one back to sleep etc..

There was a while when I was collating the Lounge threads I would be checking AFF very often, and there have also been periods when I've consciously stayed away from AFF - this is usually those periods when there are no forward bookings on the horizon (so sad..)

During my travels i tend to get disengaged from AFF

I noticed it was a similar few people who would always welcome the new members - so I decided to join in of late. May not last but I reckon it is nice. Never even considered posts count (until this thread!).

This is as good a spot as any to add my thanks to all who contribute in a constructive and friendly way - it's a great forum with great people. While I'm happy engaging mainly on the forum rather than in person, my few experiences of meeting fellow AFFers (on the other side of the world!) confirm this.

Cheers.

I am still here. ;)

Thanks for the link serfty,

Did a quick check of my posting history against the overall winner.

My posting against the winner, serfty has finished with 3 firsts with the most posts over the past 10 years, I did a further check and this year will be the first that serfty does not finish in the top 5 posters

Looking at the stats it's clear that more or less same people contribute most of the posts. While some don't post much due to all the reasons mentioned already (busy at work etc) I'm sure the vast majority of the tens of thousands of AFFers find it more convenient to just read relevant posts and move on. Admittedly, while being active on AFF, I'm just a reader on Facebook, FlayerTalk and other FF forums.
It takes a great effort to be active and contribute despite the busy life we all have therefore I appreciate everyone who post and share their knowledge and hopefully we will see more new AFFers moving from just reading to also sharing their knowledge and experience.

I wholehartedly agree Buzz

I was was welcomed when I posted in the introduction thread and appreciated it so I now try to welcome every new member.

No, not for me.
My post count is shamefully low.
But my appreciation of the contributions of others is immeasurably high. :)

Edit: And I still fail to understand how anyone finds the time to post at the frequency levels of the main contributors.
Must be way more time-efficient than I am!:)

Nope. Insomnia is the main culprit I suspect. :)

The memory that springs to mind is a Perth social gathering where we discussed "the walk of shame". I had no knowledge of this but missafternoondelight was able to explain it to me. Loved her changing pics which went from lips to bikini and back.

Over 30,000 posts each for Serfty, JohnK and Markis10. Wow! Doesn't look like anyone else has even broached the 20s. That has to be an enormous chunk of the last decade on here, for which I'm sure many people, myself included, are very thankful.

I agree with others that many initially come here looking for something specific then leave when they find it. And regular users presumably drop off as flying decreases. There is much less reason to check it out when you're not flying very often.

For those who remember BR. He always referred to his homeland as "shebangabang"

It was BR who inspired me to somehow try for the shower on a plane. While MrP had reached high status in Ansett and WP in Qantas due to massive travel, those days were pre AFF membership. I remember years ago looking at a couple with First Class luggage tags on an International Flight and thinking they must be super rich. I know better now.
