PS: Just quietly, which I'll post here because I don't know where else to put it, I loathe the world "deplane". I far prefer the word DISEMBARK. Deplane sounds awful, almost a bit rude.

just for you.......

I keep thinking I spend too much time here on AFF, but I don't know how I would find the time to up my post count by a factor of six (I'm #89 and 450 posts for 2015 compared with 2500+ for the top posters).

I joined here for information and a forum in a more "civilised" manner than I'd found at Whingepool, but discovered I might be able to also actually contribute to the information flow as well as benefit from it in a supportive environment. Plus it's nice to occasionally put faces and real names to userhandles and the folk here are genuinely friendly and helpful (and a DYKWIA-free zone).

I split my posting quite a bit between here and Facebook. Prior to becoming more active there I would have posted a fair bit more on AFF. That and the dreaded iPhone App debacle has seen me drop off this year.
I love being a member here and read and surf daily.
I have met many wonderful people who I would count as real friends not just internet friends.
Hopefully I will be able to keep on reading and contributing when I can.
I can honestly say that the knowledge, skills and lingo I've acquired here is far greater than anywhere else online. As a resource for Australian based FF, it can't be beaten.
I would say to all the new members and those who don't post very often that it does take a while to fit in and feel like you belong beyond the glib Introduction and obligatory welcomes. If you persist, I can tell you that it's definitely worthwhile and your time will be repaid in a million ways.

At #59 for the year (so far) I feel I am in good company, with straitman, Himeno, Aussie_flyer, Bindibuys and others around me who I see make a lot of contributions.

Joining here is one of the best things I have done, as the knowledge gained has been invaluable. I do try to contribute regularly, but can't do that much when on the boss' dime. But having cut back to 3 days work a week this year, freeing up time for AFFing, I see my post count has accelerated a little.

Bah Humbug :)

Clearly I have way too much time on my hands.

I used to enjoy my free time on overseas holidays but free wifi has changed that one for good.

Sorry.

Good to see a bunch of relative newcomers high up on the list (only 4 02/03 joiners in the top100)

I sometimes go through cycles of silence, although I would still be doing quite a bit of reading.

For the sake of stats though, is it possible to find where the posts are? Not targetting anyone, of course, but 100 posts giving constructive information in the QF or VA threads should probably have a higher brownie points count than someone making 1000 posts in the playground (but I guess the frequent visitors here already know who those people are).

Interesting. Just noticed one entry, where the number of posts in 2015 was greater than the "Total posts". Is that a Playground post issue?
Playground posts don't count towards individual post count but are counted in the link provided for the total post count each month and for the whole year.

Somehow I've clocked up 45% of my total posts this year...I can only assume that three months off work helped

Hmmm.
So, to be clear, are you saying that "Total Posts for the Year" includes Playground posts but "Total Posts" does not?

Yes, where I'm working definitely impacts how often I read/post on AFF.

5. There's a bit of a "cool kids group" based in Melbourne that seems to be across it all which means the rest of us can read and enjoy - and find out what we need to know (or learn something we otherwise knew nothing about!). This isn't a criticism at all - on the contrary, the banter from those posters has gleamed me one or two extremely useful tips - but it is the reality that this group skews to Melbourne rather than the Emerald City, which is hard to accept when you are in Sydney, BECAUSE IT IS THE BEST AT EVERYTHING ALL THE TIME /sarcasm off.

Awwwww shucks

6. There's a couple of posters that say "hello" to every single new joiner, which is nice - I appreciated it! - and that probably jacks up their total # of posts a bit.

Guilty

Hmmm.

I believe that to be correct.

That could be a bug. Was that for you or another member?

No, not for me.
My post count is shamefully low.
But my appreciation of the contributions of others is immeasurably high. :)

Edit: And I still fail to understand how anyone finds the time to post at the frequency levels of the main contributors.
Must be way more time-efficient than I am!:)

Hmmm.
So, to be clear, are you saying that "Total Posts for the Year" includes Playground posts but "Total Posts" does not?

Seems to be correct. In "Posts in 12-2015", I have 19 posts / Total Posts: 358; for all 2015 (Posts in 2015) I have 459 posts / Total Posts: 358.

Haven't heard from Medhead for a while. Has he gone or is he in the naughty corner ?
