AFF Tasmania - Newcastle replacement 23/24 October

Not open for further replies.
While I'm tempted to have a crack at this, I'm due to fly PER-BME on Tuesday 26 October to join a 12-day voyage Broome-Fremantle on Wednesday 27 October.

Just can't risk being locked out of St Marko the Magnificent's Promised Land (TM).

I'll have to pass. šŸ™

I would like to register my interest, but highly likely to still be in Prison Victoria then...

I would be happy with either Hobart or L'ton. Would prefer a lunch. Hobart to Launceston by road is only 2 hours.
Caveat - I am booked on a tour starting in Perth on the 20th October then train to Sydney but as Covid things go I think I will postpone this until next year.

Well if the train to Sydney is the Indian pacific it will not be leaving Perth in November as it is not allowed into WA.Beyond Rail hasn't officially cancelled trips from October on but are advertising Adelaide to Sydney and return trips.Though I don't think SA will be omboard with that.

OK, lets do lunch on Saturday 23 October, in Launceston. Looking for suggestions for a pub venue - ie minimal hassles with numbers changing at last moment.

Also, could people please show their liklihood of attending:

Platinum if you are coming, barring last minute problem
Gold if its pretty likely you will come
Silver - you'd like to, but less than 50%
Bronze - Maybe next time
... and if +1 or more will be coming.

On the menu - exchange of travel tips; any stuff thats too good to post on-line, etc etc.

GOLD at the moment - depending on border restrictions between ACT & TAS.

Re : pub venue - I have not been too much around TAS to know any good recommendations. Happy to go with what knowledgeable people say .... All I need is a bowl of chips & a good beer - I'll be alright :)

I'm already fully vaccinated, however I am not sure whether I will be allowed into TAS for this.

The current roadmap doesn't see any material easing of restrictions in DPRV capital, also the LOCKDOWN capital of the world*.

* except for CFMEU members... until yesterday

Bronze I'm afraid. Last weekend and only chance for us to go to Wynyard for the annual tulip festival. Went last year but the best was over.

Sounds like copper to me :)

I'm told the Royal Oak and the Jailhouse grill are ok for a pub lunch - but have no first hand experience at the Royal Oak and only eaten at the Jailhouse grill once quite a while ago.

The young ones have mentioned the Royal Oak favourably.I have eaten at the Jailhouse Grill twice. One was good the other not.
Still asking.

It was awhile ago at the jailhouse grill for me, my main memory was it had a good wine list - who knows what the food was likeā€¦..

I am currently Silver but I expect the date is so close to any possibility of even restricted travel from Sydney to Launceston that you can rate me as Bronze - unless there is a miracle lifting of restrictions between NSW and Tassie. Pity, as it would be a good break out function.

So are we still on for this.We went to the Royal oak for dinner last night and I would think pretty reasonable for a lunch.Dinner they have live music on so not such a good thing.Food was quite reasonable in quality and price. There are 2-3 different spaces as well.

Going to have to start confirming numbers soon.

Can I have replies from those who are definitely planning to come (lunch, Launceston on Saturday 23 Octber), or are likely to. I think NSW/Vic very unlikely to be able to come, unfortunately.

I'll do this over several posts as I think there is a limit to the number of @ that can be used. Three?

@Tassieoptom @drron @Sulzerman
