Just wondering if it is known what the proportion of male to female members of this site is?

I enjoy this forum and usually find it quite informative but occasionally a bit 'blokey' in some of the comments.

Any other female members have an opinion on this?

I'm sure that admin could tell you and I would expect about 20% female.

I wonder whether it is "blokey' or because a large number of us know one another (from meetings), whether it's more "community" :?:

Now I'm sure that karens and ozbeachbabe would love to post their thought here.

There are a few female members that turn up to events and of course partners of members, but as with a lot of things, there seems to be more males.

Also seems to be a few more gay members than you’d think… ;)

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

AFF Supporters can remove this and all advertisements

Fact of the matter is, there are a lot of men on this forum (based on members, not say the SOs of male members). Hence all the blokey stuff, including copious use of the term SWMBO. :D (Lucky for me, I'm single...)

I've never thought of it as being particularly "blokey" - often it's difficult to guess whether a poster is male or female.

Well I'm not female and I do not know the answer to the question other than to say 'WHO CARES.'

I'm not really being disrespectful here but.....

Does it really matter :?:

This is something Flashware and I have discussed in terms of there being a disproportionate amount of people of certain demographics compared to society.

I randomly stumbled across this website whilst online (how else would I??) and it took quite a few months before I signed up. Now my friends describe me as an airline nerd because of the random airline stats and info I know. I am also described as a knitting nerd but that's apparent on a completely different website.

Maybe I'm biased because I met Flashware in Sydney last year and this is an extra way to keep in touch. But I do appreciate having a bunch of like minded people to ask questions and seek advice from.

Good question - is the QP more a boys club as well?

Maybe us blokes seek status more then the women ?

I'm female. AFF blokey? Maybe a little, never thought about it much.
As long as I get good tips and info, I don't really care ;)

I'm not trying to start a fight but what do you mean?

I can't be sure but perhaps the OP is interested in topics that relate to female "frequent flyers"??

Just a thought.

Of course, not all websites have more males to females, but I’d guess most do. I’m not sure how many males there are in the world either, but just going by what I know of the one child policy in China, seems that there might be slightly more?

And now with a simple google search, there seems to be 0.01 more males to females in the world.

I’m not being anti-feminist or sexist or whatever, I just reckon there are more males online and in forums than females, certainly so in this one. Maybe you don’t think so? *shrugs*

^^ I actually haven't found that to be the case in the past..

I suppose though it would depend on the type of forums you frequent.. I might visit more female orientated ones (eg. Vogue forums - where I guarantee you there is more females than males!) and males might visit more male orientated ones.

Anyways! :p

I can't see too many guys being on Essential Baby :!:

Let's examine, for instance, the average SYD-MEL peak-hour flight on a weekday morning. What is the average male:female ratio of the passengers on that typical flight? I will be so bold as to suggest that there will be considerably more men than women. I don't seek to be drawn into a debate about women in the workforce and the glaring inequalities they are confronted with, it just seems to me that the majority of "road warriors" are male.

It appears that there are a number of gay members of this site, some of them more visible than others (though examining the list of a members' friends is can be quite telling!), dispelling the stereotype of gay men living in a world that is composed entirely of Krug Rosé, Prada shoes, MDMA and €45 manicures (although I do quite like Krug Rosé, and I do believe in good grooming!).

Anyhoo, the "blokey" thing is OK by me. It doesn't seem to deter the Ladies or the Poofs*, so what's not to like? :D

(*I use this "derogatory" term because I am entirely comfortable with my homosexuality, and I think that it's a charming Australianism)

Though I prefer to keep 99% of our conversations offline, as they've no relation to travel :oops:

Yes, anat0l - SWMBO is an example of what I meant by 'blokey'.

I note that straitman poses the question, "Who really cares" .

I suppose I don't care either, I was simply stating that I had noticed this trait and it had got me wondering about the ratio of male to female. The icon posted next to the thread title should have been a bit of a clue that this was supposed to be simply a lighthearted conversation starter.
;)

Interestingly, SWMBO is perceived (by me at least) to be a light hearted reflection on one's Female Partner.

Imagine the furore a related acronym like HWMBO might invoke. :p
