The S&P500 futures market has gapped up 50 points from Friday's close and is currently on an upward move. It will be interesting to see what it looks like tomorrow morning after the overnight trading session.

That would explain why my portfolio took a nice little jump since I last had a look earlier last week.
 
What does gapped mean from a share market point of view?
Markets that trade 24/7 or 24/5 tend to open at the previous day's close (or near enough). In this case, the futures market opened this week's session 50 points higher than last week's close. When you look at the chart, there is actually a 'gap' between the high price of the previous bar and the low price of the current bar.
