AFF Member Stock Discussion

We bought IFL today @$3.10 and may have to average down if they drop. Hard to pick the bottom but IOOF are confident with the MLC purchase.
Spoke with Acorn ACQ today and we have been impressed with them.

IOOF (IFL) may be confident with the MLC purchase but the market seems to be less so

Struggling to use your Frequent Flyer Points?

Frequent Flyer Concierge takes the hard work out of finding award availability and redeeming your frequent flyer or credit card points for flights.

Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, the Frequent Flyer Concierge team at Frequent Flyer Concierge will help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Yes @flydoc IFL shares have been trashed by this deal and the institutions are under water. There is a base price for everything but it is always difficult to work out what that figure is.
Long Short Fund LSF had insiders buying so we held onto some instead of trading them. That worked well.
Codan is an Ophir pick. Had not heard of them because we don’t go gold prospecting. They had a really good result.
We will be taking up the Acorn ACQ and Generation Development GDG share issues.
Acorn typically invest for just under 3 years as companies grow and get ready to list or sell out.

When the frequent flyer points game slowed we had to do something else......it was the share market for us.
We are stuck in Western Australia with zero flights booked at the moment.
It has given us more time to look at investments.
PrimeWest PWG clip the ticket on $4.5 billion of syndicated real estate so we thought that should be ok provided they can get more syndicates going. Their net asset value is modest so you are hoping for a growth story
Trident Royalty TTR is getting going on the UK AIM market. They are confident that they can get it going from a very modest start. So far so good and they are chasing mining royalty streams. Their 20 pence shares traded at 30 pence last night so the trend can be our friend. We wanted some UK income so this may help.

Hopefully RFF can reset their debt down from 3.74% when they get a chance. With some good weather RFF can do well.

Have never looked at that one @Buzzard.
With Telstra we have had a dodgy email service for a month. Very annoying but we still haven't dumped them as a telephone company but have zero interest in being a shareholder.
We have searched and searched for a rural share without any real success. Our Costa experiment was not worth the effort. Costa will probably go better now we are out.

‘I remember having a Codan in car ‘telephone’ many years ago when living in rural/remote QLD

Must say I have really enjoyed Coves gardening reports.
Bought some LIC's yesterday and was bagging my lack of enterprise to the broker.. who was quite unsympathetic

This afternoon/evening we have been reading annual reports and we were pleased with West Africa WAF and Element25 E25. Both came from Euroz placements and look set to do pretty well.
E25 think they can recover their start up costs within 6 months from their manganese deposit.
WAF think their gold mining costs will be sub $600 USD. They are unhedged so their profit margin looks really good.
Smaller stocks can be ok but you do have to consider sovereign risk.

Decided I'd get into farming with RFF last week
I had rff for a long time but after their massive ”short” attack a while ago I decided to let them go, not a bad company overall and probably should have held on. However since then have changed my way of investing to try and get more franking credits, which reits like this don’t offer.

We don’t mind going for growth stocks but that means less dividends and less franking credits.
Our SMSF has been getting chunky tax refunds from the franked dividends. Never thought we would ever get tax refunds.
We missed ARB for the camping around Australia in 4 wheel drives and AUB as the best insurance stock.
If it was left with Mrscove we would have more cash at bank but interest rates are too low for doing that. Instead we have bank hybrids that can be sold to get cash quickly and still earn some reasonable franked income.
One of my friends has less than 10 stocks but we prefer to have many.

Spent time looking at Ora Banda which is OBM. This company will be gold mining in just a few months time. Our Kalgoorlie friend thinks it will be a winner.

We have way too many stocks and bonds but we cut MIN and they kept running up a further $9 before they started dropping.
City Chic CCX missed a US acquisition by being an under bidder. Some pricing can be crazy so we are not upset about them offering too little.
Kogan KGN is still adding customers and they are improving their profitability. We just wish their after sale service would improve.
Was never attracted to Adair’s but they have done better than we expected.
Our market in Australia will start the week down a bit.

Semi-OK start but think we saw that coming like Cove said above..

BUB trading at .79 with their share purchase plan offered at .80.

We try to buy under the SPP price. Did that with CGF Challenger and IFL which is IOOF. Just use SPP as a price guide and go for what is best for you.
If you use a discount broker getting BUB at below 80 cents works fine.
The IFL IOOF underwriters have to handle 97% of the SPP not taken up and that was their risk for a fee. We had never been shareholders of IFL and we bought them thinking $3.10 might be ok but we were ready to get some at a lower price if they dropped further.
