AFF Member Stock Discussion

I’m pleased that BHP has abandoned the Billiton suffix and indeed the whole dual listed company structure. Going to revert to a pure Australian corporation ( With major OS shareholders of course).
To think BHP touched I think $16 few years ago.
Of course I didn't push the button.
Was still learning the game.

Divi's alone cover good chunk of that price since.

Not unusual for a stock to give up some of its gains when it goes ex-div. Did that happen today?

No, doesn't go ex-div until 2 Sept. Reaction today to the Woodside 'merger' (sale of BHP oil & gas division to Woodside for Woodside shares). SO - some BHP value now a proxy for Woodside; Woodside won't be held by some instos (and individuals, but they don't count), so the Woodsoide proxy deemed a drag on BHP.

Meanwhile we discovered the foreign investment in Myanmar Metals was not our greatest idea. A military coup has stopped a development and the project is being sold up.

The S&P 500 futures were down overnight so expect something similar on our markets today.

Mining projects in less than stable countries are always risky because they are subject to the whims of the politicians/military in power and a change in government/ruler/minister can derail them overnight. Axiom Mining in the Solomon Islands is another example that has singed my fingers.

I have an interest in an unlisted entity also is trying to get a project up in the Solomon Islands. I think they are about to write it off - too many brown paper bags being required.

Bawdwin project. Has a grand history …. of disappointment 😕

Out went Novonix and Elders and then we bought Codan and Tyro. Taking a second profit on Novonix was nice.
Elders dropped after we bought and then recovered. Don’t think we will go there again.
Had watched Codan for months and an opportunity occurred this morning when the price dropped.

Took part in the Aspen APZ placement today at $1.33.
The acquisition of the Buckeridge residential portfolio is at a very attractive price. Couple that with $80 million of tax losses and we jumped on it. Suggest you read the acquisition info as the prices are brilliant.

ok
homework to do!

Len Buckeridge’s family had very little interest in the residential properties that he spent a lifetime accumulating.
Seeing them get sold as a package pretty much stunned us but we own about 5% of Aspen so we are delighted to be involved in the acquisition and bringing these unloved properties back to a good standard.
Len was good to us when we needed advice. He used to be the largest residential property owner in Western Australia.

I’ve had a quick look ...there will need to be more movement and demand for these apartments presumably when Covid restrictions lift in WA?!

There are no Covid restrictions inside WA. We are like SA and Tasmania at the moment but that may not last.
Keeping Covid out when we have trucks, planes, trains, ships and boats coming is very difficult.
These properties have been unloved for several years.

Bargain hunting can be an uncertain and dangerous game, particularly if you are attempting to trade against the established trend.
I only trade what I can afford to lose and successfully have managed my equities for over 30 years. I buy regular stocks at all prices but especially when lower. I don’t short and avoid selling out when everyone else does… we all do what works for us
