AFF Member Stock Discussion

Last day today for the Kogan share purchase plan. This one is well in the money.
We managed to get some Temple & Webster shares In their placement.
We put our hands up for some E25 shares in their placement yesterday. It is a dig , wash and truck operation that may be ok with manganese. Last time we ventured into manganese did not work out too well so we consider this one to be a higher risk.
If every day was like yesterday we wouldn’t need to go to work but stock markets go up and down.

I hear you. The market is very flip flop at the moment. Trying to buy in and sell out of the US market at the right points is proving tricky!

We didn’t get many Gage Roads shares in an allocation on Friday. It was 40,000 shares instead of the million we applied for so we were surprised.
Next week we have to look at Qantas And Challenger Share Purchase Plans.

Ok anyone taking up the Qantas share purchase plan. We just downloaded the form but have not subscribed so far.

No. @jb747 words about the future of airlines keeps ringing in my head.

On a separate matter am wondering what if any impact covid developments over the weekend will have on Aussie share market tomorrow.

I suspect the Qantas SPP will do okay, although there is not much of a margin in it for those who invest. While there are worries about the rate at which Qantas will recover in the short term, there are a lot of investors who have loads of cash looking for a home. I don't have a holding in QAN, but if I did, I probably would not subscribe to the SPP.

As to tomorrows market, it is one of those rare occasions when overseas public holidays mean we open on a Monday without any significant overseas leads. This is likely to give the bad news on covid some more weight.
I suspect we will open flat, or down a little, but will follow the trend once the major Asian markets open.

With gold shares on a fly we decided to bid for some Bellevue Gold shares in the pending placement. BGL announced some high grade drilling results but this is not yet a mine so it is risky. Actually most mining projects carry quite a bit of risk.
One of our Kogan share purchase plans was fully ok but our original holding when Kogan started was smallish so quite a bit of the $30,000 share purchase plan money is being refunded.
Still haven’t decided on Qantas and Challenger as they are both marginal from the outset.

Good morning travellers/traders.
I can’t believe I’ve just starting following this post as an avid long term trader/traveller...now semi retired (from work not travel albeit temporarily)
It’s been a wild ride and I’ve enjoyed reading the comments predicting what would happen prior to COVID and during - then what has come to pass..
My approach
- 70% CSL BHP CBA TCL CSR SYD
-10% ETF VGSMSCI good for US stocks
- 10% gold
- 10% other/fun i.e don’t care if I make a loss )
‘Covid cluster’ - ANSELL/MESOBLAST/STARPHARMA - latter two making drugs w efficacy in ICU pts
APT - bought at $8 so doing well
TRAVEL - because I love - WEB
Buy for div (always reinvest) and cap growth

My rules
I never invest what I can’t afford to lose
I invest every week (up or down) but increase during downturn ie past 3 months
Towards end of fin year I sell any speculative cough that’s taken a loss to cover my capital gains.

Just my approach not financial advice (DYOR).
PS - my travel refunds have all gone towards share purchases as only way I can cope!!

Wish there was a way to pay from AMEX into our broking accounts esp during the double points promo - shame I haven't found it yet. If someone has, please feel free to PM me :)

likewise for me, with forex...
i used to do it 2.5yrs ago.. now its banned

Shame as we're not using credit on a charge card - will usually need to pre-pay to get large charges approved - just there is an incentive for Amex via merchant fee and for us via rewards points (even at usual earn rates) to direct our cash via Amex first rather than directly to the broker. Guess it is what it is. I know I'm preaching to the converted here on AFF :)

Fortunately I got into gold stocks early.Three have taken off and my Super fund is now higher than it was on 1/7/19.
Question now is when i take my profits.

Yes @drron no one rings a bell to tell you when to sell. Our gold stocks have performed well too.
As for oil and gas and banks and travel businesses they are going down.
Kogan, Temple and Webster and Z1P have defied gravity.
We received about one sixth of our Bellevue Gold placement application so that one was rushed on Thursday.
i plan to sell a few duds off next week.

Hi
Just put in my APT SPP - I’ll be keen to see how much I get in the allocation. At $66 max it’s high but still less than current trading price . I’m still way ahead at $8.....
Good luck everyone

I sold QBE for a gain and Prospa for a loss last week. I sold CGC and some VRL. Still not much kick with oil but BYE may be a winner.
Prospa does not appear to be prospering and agriculture is as difficult as ever.
Qantas extended the date of their share purchase plan so the SPP take up may be slower than expected.
