AFF Member Stock Discussion

Otoh, had it not been for a Stock broker, we would not be where we are now.
His wise advice to a couple of young greenhorns means that most of the stocks we bought 40 years ago are still in the portfolio.
Times have changed.. such is life

IMHO: The problem with brokers is that sometimes they are good but more often they promote you to invest in stocks which they are underwriting and look more to their bottom line than yours. When such stocks tank they don’t advise then make another 1%+ commission when you sell the bunnies they have promoted to you at a significant loss.

We are ok to pay 0.3% for advice brokers and 0.1 % for Commsec when we are doing transactions of size.
Just don’t need too much complications so we stay loyal to the ones we trust.
We don’t chase the new cheap start up brokers.

Agreed. The cheaper ones usually are cheap because of limitations as well e.g. some are not on CHESS, most have limited functionality and/or market information, and facilities.

I use nabtrade and am yet to find any that offer as much value as I get there, even though they may have cheaper trade costs.

Oh, God. I've been involved in 3 underwritten floats and each time I didn't think the sponsoring broker could sink any lower than the last ...

Lost that one.

Once after the debut, there was a persistant seller. Asked the broker to check it out - "Nada". Rolled up my sleeves and did some deep diving. It was one of their key clients, who took a lot of the float. No tied buyers by the broker to take this up. The Board did all the work try o Doak it up but then we threatened to 'put the word around' about how they did things. Not that that was news, but this was so blatant.

Yes we bought some today @I love to travel.
We typically invest until all the cash is gone.
We make some mistakes.
Had a management call from CQE today and I remain impressed. Their funding is locked in to 2025 and their rents grow 3% a year. We take the distribution rather than shares.
Maybe we should have a mistakes thread......

The ASX futures are up a mile this morning.
That might mean those purchases made last week may turn into bargains.
We saved a bunch at a real estate auction this morning which was online by not buying.
We did like Pepper’s result.
MFG funds are leaving them so we didn’t buy.
