Just another point, if anyone wants to carry on drinkies after Friday night drinkies :)oops:), my Rydges Platinum card gives me 1/2 price of drinks and food... the bar at Rydges World Square is quite delightful and obviously cost effective! (also an excellent selection of beer, wine and killer coughtails)
;)

This sounds like a great cost effective idea for carry on drinks.

We also have Hemmesphere / The IVY / Ruby Rabbit that may also tickle a fancy with some attendees, although pricing won't be as cost effective as Rydges. We also have Midnight Shift & ARQ for the Oxford St following should this genre want to kick on also :p

I have never been to Fringe bar, but sits on the city fringe - looks great.

Just had a look at JQ30 and fares are very cheap now!

$49 for JetSaver Light and $59 for JetSaver.

Damn them!

I was just trying to work out what time the flight was so I could post to the October 2009 thread :D

For JQ schedules then I actually look at the Qantas online timetable.

At that low price I should book the JQ30 flight and see if any more Platinums turn up.

If they don't then I just book Qantas on a direct BNE-SYD a few days out.

While searching for a TV show of the same name, I just stumbled across this place: The Fringe Bar

While it may not be suitable for this weekend, it does look pretty cool and I wouldn't mind checking it out next time I'm in SYD. Has anyone been there before?

A mate of mine plays there occasionally, and I was there on Saturday night. It is a very cool place, and drinks are reasonably-priced compared to some of the nicer venues around the city (read: $7.50 for basic spirits, instead of $9-$10 of ivy/Ruby Rabbit). Same group that owns Sugarmill/Kit&Kaboodle (best joint in the Cross), Cargo, Loft & Bungalow 8. They know what they're doing (and their staff are great!)

If the group ends up around Oxford St, I'd recommend:
- Pocket Bar (very popular, very funky)
- Fringe Bar
- Ruby Rabbit (already mentioned) - Get there around 9:30pm, walk through the Big Rig Diner into the Houndstooth Room, then up the stairs into the nightclub part (so you don't have to pay the cover charge), then from there, up to De Nom. :)
- Waterbar isn't far away either (the old Sydney W). Very nice bar.

Cheers,
- Febs.

Suggestions for drinking holes, and restaurant venues also gladly received.
Hey there - just found this topic.

When I was in Sydney, we found the *best* restaurant - China Doll at the Finger Wharf, Woolloomooloo. While their specialty is Chinese, they also have a variety of dishes from other parts of the world, and everything we tried was fantastic. No surcharge for Amex & Diners, and last month they were QFF's Restaurant of the Month :D If you do decide to dine there, remember to take your QFF membership card - 3 points per $1 spent :D

You can check them out at Chinadoll Restaurant

:)

China Doll is fantastic, but could be a bit pricey if the group was after a cheaper meal.

(Same goes for all restaurants along the wharf there).

Cheers,
- Febs.

samh004 do you have accmmodation for the gathering?

I have just received an email from DreamClub (Hotel Club) advertising the Travelodge for $77 a night and I have checked rates available on both nights of October 23 and 24. With Hotel Club current promotion I also get 10% discount (I think normal members get 4%-6% discount) to be used of future hotel stays. Hope this helps....

JohnK, thanks for the great advice there. I was looking into staying at the Rydges, but this looks like a much better deal for my budget.

I checked on the hotelclub website and saw I could book this up to the 31st, so I'll have a quick think about it and probably book it soon.

Cheers!

Sam, Mrs! and I are there - the hotel is nice, the restaurant is fine, the bar makes good drinks, the rooms are good but the view sucks, the pilows are from heaven...

I have a platinum rydges card - 50% off drinks and food, PM me your mobile and I'll make sure you get as many benefits of my card as possible by combining bills etc..

Thanks for the offer and all, but I doubt I'd be spending money eating at the hotel, other than breakfast (and that's not included in the discount anyway).

The price I've paid for 2 nights at Travelodge now is roughly the same as 1 night at World Square, which gives me a little more dosh to be social. So I'll definitely see you there, but can't stay in the same hotel this time around.

Thanks for the help though, both of you. Flight and accom is now booked :)

SYDNEY AIRPORT TARMAC TOUR

As it currently stands, we fall short in number to make a group booking (we have 11, groups start at 15). On the plus side, my last contact with the operators suggest there are still plenty of seats available.

Therefore, could all those folk who wish to undertake the Tarmac Tour make their own bookings for the Tarmac Tour. Tour time is Saturday 24 October 10 am.

See the information for General Public Bookings here: http://www.airsidetarmactours.com/bookings/index.html

(Saves me having to collect money as well :) )

Could you please let me know when you have booked!

EMAIL ADDRESS

I have setup an email address that can be used for contact:

Further updates will follow over the weekend.
