Sydney has been chosen as the AFF Annual Gathering destination for 2019, occurring over the weekend of the 18th to 20th October. The average temperature range for October is 14.4ºC to 22.8ºC, with a relative humidity of 53%. The average rainfall is 82.2mm with 11 rainy days. It is Australia's most populous city (as of 2017).

Sydney has previously played host to an Annual Gathering, as the third city chosen in the second year. Sydney is not the first city to play host twice, with Melbourne previously taking that honour as the first (2008) and eighth (2014); and Adelaide as the second (2008) and twelfth (2018).

We are of course interested to hear your suggestions and ideas for the event, so together we can make it enjoyable for all, but with the dates locked in now, please feel free to solidify a place at the 2019 annual gathering.

  • Friday Drinks are at the Australian Heritage Hotel in a function room called the Wine Emporium and start at 18:00. You access the Wine Emporium from Gloucester Street, The Rocks.
  • Opera House tour begins at 10:15, meet at the Welcome Centre located on the Lower Concourse at least 15 minutes prior. If you haven't been there before, I suggest arriving with plenty of time to spare. There is a cloaking room at this location for any bags.
  • Saturday Dinner is at Long Chim (Corner of Pitt St & Angel Pl) from approx. 19:30. I am not aware if there is a bar available for pre-drinks, but you will need to keep track of what you drink and settle with me at the end, as they do not split drink bills, unfortunately.
  • Sunday HARS trip leaves from Central Railway Station, Bus Bay #9 (Western Forecourt Area – left after Country Trains platforms) at 08:30. There should be signage denoting "Australian Frequent Flyer" and it will be operated by Murrays with a trailer for luggage. It is important we get away on time.

Your organisers are @support behind the scenes and @Quickstatus on the ground who will be working hard to help find activities, restaurants and whatever else to make this event great!

Schedule

Pre-do
Nothing planned but I believe there is a special performance of the The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo in Sydney.

Friday night
Drinks at The Australian Wine Emporium located at The Australian Hotel (100 coughberland St) in the heart of The Rocks. Food and drinks will be available to purchase from a private bar.

A cost of $5 is required to be prepaid to cover the cost of reserving the space.

Saturday
Saturday morning activity is a private tour of the Sydney Opera House at 10:15. The ticket cost is $42 and will need to be prepaid. Please meet at the Welcome Centre located on the Lower Concourse at least 10 minutes prior to the tour departure time.

Please leave large bags at home where possible. Bags larger than A4 size will need to be cloaked on arrival and may be subject to a search before being cloaked. It is not possible to store suitcases or large backpacks within the Sydney Opera House cloaking facilities.

No group tours planned for the afternoon, but a Sydney Harbour Bridge Climb is recommended and there are plenty of things to do in Sydney.

Saturday night
Dinner at Long Chim (Corner Pitt Street & Angel Place) from approx 1930. The cost is $80 and prepayment required, drinks extra (similar to last year we cannot split bills so you will be provided with a pen/paper to keep track as the night goes on).

Sunday
Bus tour from Central Station (DEP 08:30) to HARS (ARR 10:00) for the day, including lunch at The Connie Cafe. On the return journey, the bus will stop at the SYD Domestic terminals (T2 & T3), before making its final stop back at Central Station. For this reason, if you are flying out on Sunday night, you can bring your bag with you to go under the bus.

Bus ticket is $55 and will need to be prepaid, while HARS* entry is $20.

*There may be scope to do additional activities at HARS for those adventurous, currently working out details.

Post-do
Dinner with anyone left behind is yet to be finalised, but after the weekend, somewhere cheap might be appropriate.

Would love to make one of these events. Too early to call.

Would love to attend another.Certainly not OS on those dates but probably will be working so at present all depends on rosters and flights.Won't know those until a month or two out.

Hope to make it. Don't know how that translates to plat, gold etc.
