Dear all
Thanks for all the info, I've had a concise crash course accruing SC to get over the Q platinum threshold.
Amazing Im simply going to fly not for a destination, but for platinum, albeit it will last for one year.
The odd thing, for the next year, I wont see myself travelling as much as I did previously, and now there is that incentive to try to make the most of the status
Need to spend more money for trips!
Cheers alll

Yikes, thanks so much for this. Should have read the fineprint.

So checking a one way flight: a classic award (no earn sC) from MEL-Cairns is 36000 points vs 126,100 points for Any Seat
Certainly a price/point difference: guess is it worth shelling out 250k points (return) just to get me over to platinum...dliemma!
280k points gets you a round the world business fare which is $14000

is Platinum really worth that much?

You should be able to do it for fewer points than 126k and a copayment of few hundred dollars. Check the spreadsheet. You can do ADL-BNE-TSV for 48k + $360 return must be similar MEL-BNE-CNS.

If your JASA as an international sector eg CNS/MEL/AKL which I think is the same amount of points as just CNS/MEL, you can have a stopover at your gateway city of MEL so at the time of reservation you can book eg CNS/MEL 10 Mar & MEL/AKL 10 Apr then just purchase a cheap one way fare AKL/MEL to get you home. It's one way to get more bang for your buck so if you want to take SWMBO to AKL for just a weekend eg birthday or anniversary it's a nice way to kick it off.
