Dear AFF members,

I am currently gold for the last 8 years, with my status reassessment occurring on 31st May 2014.
I have achieve 1180 status credits since last year (1 June 2013).

I need an additional 220 SC before 31st May to achieve platinum.
I wouldn't be too fussed normally , but I am travelling Qantas business to USA on June 6th 2014 -6 days later
If I could accrue SC from this, I would definitely pass the target.

Do you think there is any opportunity with Qantas these days, where they would consider this flight after expirt, and allow accruing in the previous year and reaching platinum (albeit for a year?)
Is it worth asking qantas, not knowing who to speak to?

I am thankful for your advice

MK

It wont happen.

Best advice is to fly extra to achieve Platinum. You'll get a great lounge experience for that flight then, you'll earn 25% more points, get some new Q tags, perhaps be able to select better seats etc... there's a few benefits, but only you can decide if it's worth chasing.

Oh, and welcome!

Welcome aboard mkng. Sorry I've got bad news for you.

Basically you've got no chance of being comped Platinum if you've never been at that level before.

Qantas occasionally allows you to retain your status if you fall short one year but have never been known to give you a status upgrade in this situation.

Tell us your home base and we might be able to find some quick flights to attain the final 220 SCs so you can enjoy the F lounge before you depart.

Dear all
Many thanks for your fast replies
Its clear to me, Qantas will not comp upgrade me in this situation.

I'd be grateful for your advice on options to get me over the line.
I live in Melbourne, and have 600,000 FF points to use.
The most efficient, shortest trips would be ideal

Thanks again

I kind of assumed they'd return to Melbourne again rather than staying in Alice.

It'll earn 240 SCs + 8,158 points as Gold.

MEL/SYD/CNS in J do 240 Status points.

I'll even buy you a drink :)

From memory MEL ASP is cheaper?

I've been looking at this since Sat but for the life of me I can't find a day on weekend that has classic award availability to book a MASA. Can only see return flight available, am I looking at this correctly? (i'm yet to book a MASA since the demise of online booking)

I was just playing around and saw availability on April 6 (QF400>QF790>QF791>QF451).

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

With that many points we'll have many options :)

Dear all
Thanks again for your support and various suggestions, and even an offer of the bar! :)
I've checked my qantas summary, and with some already forthcoming trips and claiming a previous flight points: I might get my required SC to 160!

I think the Mel-Cairns return in J might be the best option and could do that in around trip same day! will just get me 160 exactly!
I presume a classic award seat using points would still accrue me the same SC as if I paid outright?

Thanks again
