Straight through is fine if your up to it, in our case as seniors we take the stopover/s and enjoy a city like Hong Kong for a day or more each way. Recently did CNS/HKG/DXB/VIE in J still had stops and enjoyed them all. We always book airlines direct.

Like others say join the carriers airline program.

Can CX be booked by using QF points to the first stopover in HGK - is that on the CX site?

Can use QFF points only on QFF site.

Sometimes can snag an award CX on QFF.

But really going to Europe can use QFF points on Q flights to say HKG and buy ticket on another carrier like CX from there, I've done this.

Yes, we did this via SIN, points on QF to/from SIN, and booking SQ flights SIN-LHR-SIN. Just made sure we had a break at SIN so that we wouldn't get caught by an delays on either carrier.

Others have mentioned that Royal Brunei and Vietnam Airlines can be good budget choices with fares around A$4000 return.

So is Philippine Airlines (PR), which was 'Asia's first' airline. It flies ex SYD four days a week. An overnight stopover is compulsory in MNL but you could always take a couple of days to visit a lovely Filipino scenic island with a great beach - there are many. You are best to visit a travel agent who frequently books to Philippines, but using the airline's website by inputting each sector individually will sometimes deliver almost as good a price. Flights from MNL to LHR and v.v. are 5x weekly so not all SYD flights connect 'next day.'

On the return (depending on the day) time in MNL can be as little as a few hours.

Another factor to consider when booking flights to Europe/UK is the arrival time because if it's early in the morning & your hotel checkin time is 1500, that's a lot of hanging around somewhere in the meantime.

There are some hotels that offer early checkin & some hotel chains will offer this to the top tier members of their frequent guest programs.

My preference would be to take a day flight ex Asia to Europe arriving late afternoon so you will have immediate checkin at your hotel plus you can have an evening meal then retire early without having to stay up all day to get in sync with the local time zone.

I have just returned from Europe using SQ. Wow, the room in j Class with the flat bed and very wide seats and the service. Did BA / CX last year via HKG and they were excellent as well.

Now the best news, if you go via Changi there is a very comfortable SQ lounge that you can rest and shower in as you are going Business class. IMO the Boeing 777 is a bit better layout than the A380 but that is my view. If you do get more than four to six hours gap between flights use the transit hotel. If you are staying overnight I recommend the Crowne Plaza as it is in the building with late checkout.

Just enjoy the trip and happy anniversary.

CX or SQ, take your pick. My preference is flying via Hong Kong which breaks up the two legs the best. If having a stopover, Singapore my pick provided you don't have to fly back home overnight. I always avoid overnight final leg flights of less than 8 hours duration.
If wanting to go via the Arab states, EY beats EJ hands down though final European leg shorter than even to Singapore unless you wanted to start in Ireland.

EJ ? Should this be EK?
