Hello AFF'ers

I am wondering if I can get your advice?

Planning a trip for next year, at this stage in around February (date is a little flexible)
I have to stop in 2 places. Copenhagen and Boston. Copenhagen for 5 days and Boston for a couple of days. (Seattle would be good too, but not essential)

Apart from those two destinations the sky is really open.

So here’s the challenge, I doubt I am going to keep QF WP this year, so I’ll be back to Gold at the end of December.
I would ideally like to go on a status run to regain WP for 2 years, for the year I get it, and also the following year.

So Here’s the challenge, what’s the most cost effective and interesting routes to take to get me to QF WP in this one trip? If I use a Y RTW fare(Serfty recomends a LONE4, and he hasnt let me down on advice yet!), what stopovers could I use, to link up with some AA upgrade fares?

I do have a budget in mind, around the $5k mark but that depends on a host of variables.

Do you think that is achievable for around 5k? or am I dreaming?
Suggested routes most welcome!

Cheers

You can do a couple of runs from Seattle to San Francisco via Los Angeles. It yields 300 SCs per return trip in F.

I would take a look at a round the world ticket there are some bargain out there 5 k may be a little low but I bet others on here will know some good products for you to look at

Immediately a LONE4 comes to mind; easy enough to do ex OZ for under 5K by booking via AA, but you could save some serious $$ by travelling ex AKL.

Aside from "continent of origin" [Oz/NZ (SWP)} stopovers are not specifically limited.

Simplest routing [MEL|AKL-MEL/SYD]-xLHR-CPG-xLHR-BOS-LAX-[MEL/AKL|SYD-MEL/AKL]

Max of 16 segments, so plenty of room to add some more.

Sorry, is it $5k on the lot, or $5k on top of the LONEx?

Adding $5k to a LONE and you may as well max out a DONE.

Otherwise, you'll blow ~$4k on the LONE leaving $1k for other stuff. In which case, either the proposed is probably the best value.

You can also max the segments on the LONE of course too. LHR-DXB-LHR can be a useful "intra-europe" leg (unless it's changed recently).

Time to have a play on the oneworld website to look at options.

Ok, so the LONE using the living in NZ trick is the way to go.

And I think combining this with a AA First upgrade SC run is probably the easiest way to go.
So basically I can use the LONE for positioning flights from where to get the best SC runs from.

In terms of the best SC run’s there used to be some great deals from Boston down to the Caribbean, anyone have any other tips?
The SEA to SFO via LAX sounds cool, does Alaskan Airlines have F though?

In terms of the budget, $5 was for the LONE with others on top of that. Ideally the cheaper the SC run the better.

Cheers
