Hi all
I don't get the opportunity to travel by air very often but over time (a long time) I have accumulated enough points for a flight to Honolulu return, but have never redeemed any points ever.

I am playing with the idea of taking the good wife to Honolulu for a couple of weeks maybe in February and would like to use my points for 1 return ticket and obviously buy the second return ticket.

I am north of Perth so any flight would be Perth-Sydney or Melbourne- Honolulu return.

Can anyone advise me on the most painless way to go about this and any obsticles I may encounter.

Thanks Thom

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

As an example. if you live in Broome, it's 96,000 points +++ for Broome - Perth - Sydney - Honolulu and return. Funnily enough, it's still 96,000 points ex PER. (2 Zone 8 trips)

I suggest you look at booking some 11 months in advance to give yourself the best chances of obtaining reward seating. (And be flexible with the dates/times).

As for getting a paid fare PER-HNL that's a bit more interesting and will probably cost from about$2000.

Thanks serfty, I should be so lucky to be in Broome, I'm in Geraldton so no Qantas connections here.

The paid fare is no big deal, the QFF flight is the unknown for me, is it the norm to book 11 months ahead or is it a lottery?

serfty just did a test - the paid fare on QF website defaults to 2 bookings QF PER-SYD and JQ SYD-HNL. From EF there is a paid QF fare PER-HNL which appears need to go through TA or by phoning QF to get.

I caught a flight recently on Skywest from GER to PER. A really nice flight, out to the coast and pretty much followed the ocean down.:p

Sure is a nice flight although probably one of the most expensive flights in the country.

While inconvenient, is is not as nutty as the suggestions from the QF website that go through Melbourne. It needs an extra but to come up on screen to point out you need to change airports as well.

In any case, you can usually coax the QF booking engine into giving you QF through flights by going through the Global Deals page

Except the sitie indicates there are no fares there are no fares loaded for travel beginning past 31st July next year. For October '07 requests you get the following error:
We could not find a fare for the requested itinerary. (# 66002)

aa.com returns the V fare for PER-SYD-HNL round trip; I would suggest trying to buy it there. Can either buy it for travel on the AA flight numbers ( useful for those crediting to AA ) or the QF number
