This morning I went on line to book a sale fare that appears on the website as part of the "new year sale" and according to the price graph runs from 16 Jan to 30 November 2015 with a business class price of $650 each way direct from SYD to AKL.I do this trip regularly and know this is a "genuine" sale price. Anyway, after trying multiple dates in the stated period there were no seats for sale at this price point in any of the 7 months I looked at - only $891 each way.

So I rang them and after almost 20 minutes on hold I was advised that it was a mistake and did not apply beyond February. There was no offer to honour the advertised price and an indifferent attitude with a reluctant thank you from the CSO who answered my call.

Given that false advertising is a serious matter , I was surprised it was simply shrugged of as a mistake that would be reported.I have of course taken a screen shot. Are they obliged to honour the advertised price if I press the issue?

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

AFF Supporters can remove this and all advertisements

If they don't want the ACCC to start poking around? yes.

Qantas are very very poor at advertising prices with availability and I do wonder if an investigation by ACCC is needed. I have highlighted a number of mistakes on the pricing and availability of Discounted or sale prices.

Qantas did recently offer to honour a wrong price to the UK in J that was incorrectly advertised.

I would highly recommend calling back and asking again for the dates you want and for them to honour the advertised rate.

Call back and ask for the fare to be honoured; give them ONE more opportunity then go to ACCC.

But first, begin a log of everything that has happened; when you saw fare; what you did, times of calls, what was said etc; names if you can remember & certainly going forward.

I would call back. IIRC the last sale they advertised contained incorrect prices, but the call centre honoured them until a correction email was sent out. So there is precedence.

Update- went online this morning and the fare is now widely available across the originally advertised date ranges- seems like the CSO's advice that the fare only applied in February was incorrect and it was in fact a computer glitch. Purchased accordingly for my desired dates in June!
