Hi Folks,

Hoping for some advice, if anyone’s perhaps found a way to sort this one out… We’ve booked my in-laws to travel in J from Romania to Sydney and back, in April. Booking is actually with TK and there’s a TK4863 codeshare flight in it from KUL-SYD, which is operated by MH141.

We’re trying to allocate seats on this MH segment in advance, but all avenues lead to failure, including at the call centers for both MH & TK, who say there’s no seat map assigned. Indeed when I look in EF I see the same. TK codeshare just says 'AIRPRT CHECKIN ONLY'. We're hoping to avoid seat selection discussions at that late stage, as my in-laws are quite senior, not very mobile, and don't speak much English.

I had a look at the same MH/TK codeshare flights this week, and they appear in the same way as mine in April.

Am I likely to get anywhere here... or am I fighting a losing/lost battle?

Cheers
Matt.

I think seat selection is not available on MH codeshare flights.

Or the TK codeshare is booking into an equivalent MH basic economy which does not allow seat selection
Ok - that’s annoying if it holds true (which certainly seems to be the case). Tickets are in J, so if anything was going to work, I’d have expected these to.

J are naturally seat selectable - even for MH. Suspect codeshare issue?.

Ahhh - there’s the pain point, confirmed! Thanks for that. I hadn’t looked at seat selection rules on the MH side in that way.

I’ll just have to get them a copy of the MH seat map from EF the day prior, and they can give that to the check in agent in regional Romania with their preferences. I’ll be glad to be 15.5 thousand kms away when that plays out… 😂

Cheers,
Matt.

As someone who flew TK4809 (aka MH149 from KUL to MEL) in Y last October (on a mixed class fare), I couldn't find any way to do seat selection. Had to get boarding passes and seats allocated at the transfer desk at KUL (not IST which was our point of departure - so probably not Romania either). We were stuck down the back o' the bus (although this was still better than a 22.5 hour layover we were facing in BKK after TG rescheduled our BKK-MEL flight)...

Mind you, KUL is pretty empty these days so the queue at the transfer desk wasn't too bad.

(As a point of comparison, I could select seats on TK8019 aka TG466 going over using TG's app.)

EDIT - a further complication is that any points only book to TK, as *A rely on operating carrier (MH - which is OW), while OW operate on marketing carrier (TK - which is *A).

Oh oh - I'm getting a bit more nervous now that I might only be 6.6 thousand kms away when this happens!

Thanks MELso. I guess there's not many bad seats in J... our only saving grace.

Hello, re Y seat selection on MH - Are all the seats paid now? Or does MH do the T-80 thing, after which all seats are free? Flights are MH marketed and operated.

Didn't find a thread specific to MH seating queries, so thought I'd ask here.

It’s been a while since I’ve flown MH Y, but I was always able to select from any available seat as a QFF WP, and I don’t recall ever being asked to pay for that. I would have been in Flex or one below that; never a discount bucket
