Accor Plus Membership Discussion

I've noticed that both Atelier at Sofitel Darling Harbour and Dixson & Sons have excluded a number of a la carte menu items from discounts.

Is this marked on the menu?

An alarming trend. We are off to Adelaide to stay at Playford and I note one signature dish is excluded from discount being a shared dish for two: https://lumarestaurant.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/Luma-Restaurant-Menu-A5-March-NEW-.pdf

While I would prefer no dishes to be excluded I can understand some specially priced dishes/menus or shared dishes being excluded from the discount. I will eat at Luma anyway as that is not a dish I intended to order.

It is concerning that a $16 side salad at atelier is excluded. This seems an extreme response. While the restaurant can claim to be participating it does not seem a genuine type of participation.

Hi, how do you work out the discount that is applicable, and do you just show your card when you dine?
Yes, when you ask for the bill, just let them know. They'll want to grab the card number.

The dining discount is explained here https://www.accorplus.com/au/benefits/more-flavours/ and depends on the number of people dining. Remember, it's generally only off the food portion but in Asia you can get 15% off drinks too.

Yes - I always show it at the earliest opportunity (eg right as I'm seated) to avoid any surprises for them or for me

Every single time I mention the card prior to the bill, they always just say, give us the number when the bill arrives.

Honestly, I have had nothing but inconsistent experiences with Accor to the point that I don't even know what to expect. Last time I used the card the person got upset that I had screenshot the card and wanted to see it in the app, despite the fact the card looks identical in app and screenshot, has an expiry date on it and has no animation or anything that differentiates it from the screenshot. I had to actually show her that I clicked into the app to get to it for her to be happy.

In the past I've had multiple properties tell me I should have showed the card earlier, but I've also had some proactively tell me they are aware I am an Accor Plus member (eg Novotel Geelong recently) and that my discount was applicable.

So it's a real mixed bag. Anyway, I show the card at the start so if they start umming and ahhing I can just go dine elsewhere. I've had too many disappointments finding out after the meal that they have some sort of Location, Restaurant, Brand, Peak Period, etc based exclusion. I always expect the worst with Accor.

Some places in Asia will only accept the physical card I’ve found

What I found really annoying was recently at the Sofitel in Bali. Each time I ordered drinks either by the pool or the swim up bar, I needed to remember the rather lengthy number. Given everything was being charged to the room anyway, you'd think there could be a more efficient way of doing this.

Couldn't keep the plastic card in your board shorts? I could perhaps understand if you had speedos on ;)

Wait....you're meant to wear something in the pool? Ooops. Explains why I had it all to myself I suppose :)

Didn't even have the plastic card with me. I relied on the digital one. After day 3 I just found a little app for my Garmin watch that could store notes and pulled the number up off that.

I’ll be there in a fortnight to test it out.
I carry the physical card on me which should help but yeah I’ve always had it just added to my final bill when checking out

OT - just a word of warning. If you're room has a coffee pod machine, just be aware they there is a charge for the pods. Lower category rooms don't have pod machines though.

Is that just unique to that property?

Most rooms I've stayed in recently have coffee pod machines, I never use them (as I only drink barista made coffee) and none have mentioned any charge, always assumed they were free like the tea bags. Mind you i never drink the tea in the room either because people do nasty things with kettles in hotel rooms.

I recently used pods every day for a week at a Novotel in Amsterdam without a pod tax.

They’re just a fancy version of the Blend43 sachets offered in other room types, surely?

I previously saw that at properties when they were first introducing pods, but didn't think anyone was still charging for them

I was pretty surprised. On checkout there was a charge for maybe $12 or $15 from the minibar. I said I hadn't touched it. Was informed it was the pods. I didn't make a massive deal out of it but did say it's rather cheeky charging for that.

What made it even more odd is base rooms don't have a coffee machine. So not really sure how having a machine you need to pay to use in a better room is much of an advantage.

First time any any hotel I've experienced that. Pods in a hotel have always been free in the past.

I don't recall the hotel/location but do remember a situation where two pods were provided per day complimentary.

A variety of other pods were in the minibar with a sign they were available for purchase. It was a fairer system and clear which ones I had to pay for.

That’s how it works at the Pullman Reef in CNS. I’m there next week so will take a photo of the charge.

My new card arrived today with a complimentary voucher for breakfast for two at any Accor property in Australian, NZ and Fiji. Haven't seen this benefit reported before, so a nice little addition.
