Accor Plus Membership Discussion

Many in that group seem to have a very tenuous grasp on how the programs work (beyond getting them discounted meals)
Yes - a lot of confusion over ALL vs Accor+... reward vs status points, benefits from ALL vs Accor+, etc etc

with this new promotion you can get Platinum with a spend of under $3k per year
Would that be an Ibis budget mattress run? That would be 40 days out of my life I could never get back.

That is a feature of Facebook groups in general. All you need, Roy, is an opinion, preferably backed up by a great deal of ignorance*

I know of a couple who had a 4 week tip back to the UK to visit family and went via KUL and had a night there on the way over and on the way back and decided to book the hotel for the whole month. If I recall correctly it was an Ibis and it was under $40 a night. They checked in and then went straight to another hotel and then on the way back a month later they checked out 🤣

Defs an improvement with the 20 nights vs just silver status. Now they just need to fix the earning rates for the Mantra/Peppers properties.

I wonder why the earn rate is so poor at those properties? It's certainly dissuaded me from considering them when booking, that's for sure.

My best guess is that it's due to the commission that Accor receives to manage properties that are part of the Mantra group (Mantra, Peppers, BreakFree and Art Series, acquired in 2017/2018).

Mantra group properties are typically service apartment style, which probably pay Accor significantly less then full service properties. I believe many Mantra and Peppers hotels are the type where each room is owned by individual, distinct investors.

If I need 4500 status points to hit plat, how much do I actually need to spend in Aud currently, as a gold accor plus, to get there?
I find the points aspect of all as confusing as the rest of the program, tbh.

it cost me a lot of money to stay in a Mantra apartment in Darwin for 5 nights recently, I was unaware of the poor point earn rate and so was very disappointed. It will make me think again where I stay.
Thanks for the insight everyone.

Around $3k excluding tax
It’s a very simple program and has a calculator you can use.
This is the points earn table for ever €10 spent

With the apartment style Peppers maybe there is a reason for lower earn, but some like Peppers Silos in Launceston are just an upmarket hotel so really should earn far better than an Ibis which is super budget.

I find the $ earn rate far simpler under IHG

I know that Pullman Bunker Bay fits the model where units are owned by individuals.

I seem to recall in conversation from previous stays that a poster on here owns an individual room at Novotel SYD.
I honestly don’t know how many Accor properties operate that way

I have a mate who lives at The Watson.
Great location and pretty nice albeit small living apartments. Unfortunately for him he doesn’t own it

The Grand Mercure Apartments at Maggie Island are another. Some get poor reviews of their condition and the managers told us that they sometimes have trouble getting owners to approve maintenance (Our stay was fine). I suspect other Grand Mercures are managed like this too. There is hardly ever availability at the Grand Mercure Bargara and I suspect there are hardly any units in the hotel pool there.

Could just be really popular. The Bunker Bay Pullman agreement limits your use to 2 weeks or so, and even those days you need to pay a low rate for.

Returns are pretty poor, too, so it’s only a decent investment if you can pick it up for very little.

QQ, used the Accor Plus free night earlier this year at the Sofitel Brisbane. Is it supposed to count towards the elite nights or is it not eligible?

Was acknowledged by the hotel and got 50% off the breakfast buffet, which was pretty good.

It depends. If something gets charged to the room, then yes it should. If nothing else gets charged to the room, then no.
