Accor - Platinum Benefits?

Just stayed one night at the Mercure Hadleys Hobart.

We booked not the cheapest room but I think it was the second cheapest room with breakfast included. When we checked in we asked if we are entitled to anything because we have Platinum status. The girl did not know, but she asked the duty manager and he instantly upgraded us to a 'room with a view' which was a huge apartment on the 8[SUP]th[/SUP] floor. It was a large deluxe apartment style room, with a shower and bath, kitchen, very large balcony with an outdoor spa and water views of Hobart harbour.

That was a great upgrade.

Pretty impressive from a hotel currently in receivership.

It was a Sunday night and a low time of the year. Interesting if we would have got the same upgrade on a busier night...

Still even if you may not have got it on a busier night, congratulations Matt!

Cheers

My gf just told me we stayed at ' Grand Mercure Apartments' that shares a reception with Hadleys. Either way I was impressed and would stay there again.

Just checked into Novotel Brisbane. Showed my Platinum card on check in - blank stare and "yes, you are platinum". That's it, not even a note in the room say nothing about a free bottle of water ;)

That would be hilarious if it wasn't such a terrible reflection on the loyalty program.

Oh dear. I have stayed there and found that staff would give me a room on a high floor. No other real recognition though....

Thats terrible. I haven't stayd there for 12 months but I've always had excellent recognition there including upgrades to the top floor and a welcome bottle of wine and free breakfast. Maybe it's changed in the past 12 months.

To be fair though, Novotels are not obligated to recognise platinum (or gold) status. Only applies to Sofitels and MGallery hotels etc. It is still probably worth showing them your card on the off chance..

This morning I checked into the Novotel City Central Sydney (previously Citigate). I had called to let them know that I was platinum (work had booked it and left my number off) and they said they would try to upgrade me. I walked in this morning and was told there was no benefits to being Platinum - not even free wifi. Later I went back and asked someone else who said they could not give me wifi but did give me a room upgrade 'just this once - we wouldn't normally do it'. I was made to feel like a hassle and not welcome at all. Next time I will definitely be staying around the corner at the Mercure Sydney where they immediately upgrade me, provide me with free wifi and water. The Mercure is infinitely more inviting.

Called Accor and asked for options in DRW and advised of my status, was advised $285 for regular room. Called hotel direct, was offered an upgrade to a junior suite for $245. I have a tenuous relationship with Accor especially in DRW. But it appeared to be the best offer at hand in the dry season. Opted to stay at a friends and pay for dinner and drinks instead.

Accor obviously need more complaints from big spenders. I know that Platinum is given away more than it is earn't, but when you look at what is required to earn it, Platinum members should be treated really well. To be told that your amount of business has no more value than someone who has no status and rearely stays is appalling.

they obviously don't want frequent business travellers

People also need to consider what the published benefit of the scheme are. For a platinum at a novotel it is not much at all.

If you want the benefits, you need to stay at the partipating properties that provide benefits, sofitel, pullman etc. Staying at the novotel is a lottery when it comes to this program....

Platinum Le CLub member @ the Sofitel Sydney. Booked a guestroom directly with the hotel and was upgraded to a Junior Suite, drinks on arrival and a bottle of wine/chocolates etc placed in the room. Great stay. Always appreciate when my loyalty is acknowledged.

Wouldn't have thought instant plat was considered 'loyalty' :) I'm happy you got something though. My stays as an accor plat has yielded me.... nothing

Mercure Brisbane - Gave over my plats number, was friendly and nice to the front desk people - upgrade, free internet and a nice bottle of water. Cant beat that. Just got to be nice and not act like a fool I think. Works every time.
