This is a bit of a surprise. Australia's first Movenpick branded hotel will open in Hobart's CBD in January 2021. For Accor, it joins an Ibis Styles in the city. A Crowne Plaza opened a few months ago and Marriott are currently finishing what will be one of their top-range hotels.

The location, like the CP, is right down-town, but in this case a bit closer to the docks and Salamanca precinct.

A PREMIUM global hotel company has revealed when its first-of-its-kind hotel for Australia will be opening in Hobart.

As first revealed by the Mercury almost a year ago, the hotel being built in the Elizabeth Street bus mall will be home to the country’s first Movenpick Hotel.

The Movenpick brand sits alongside a suite of other premium Accor hotels such as Pullman, Swissotel, Grand Mercure, Peppers and Sebel.
...

Drawing on the brand’s Swiss origins of being famous for chocolate, the hotel will dedicate one hour each afternoon to ‘The Chocolate Hour’ – a tasting experience for hotel guests to sample an assortment of sweet treats, such as eclairs, brownies and truffles.

The Hobart Movenpick Hotel has its soft opening in Hobart today. This newspaper pic from a while back :) . Located in the 'Elizabeth Street bus mall', its pretty well located, just a short walk downhill to the docks and close to whatever shopping downtown Hobart offers.

Looks as boring as most of Accor's other hotels.

Around Elizabeth St Mall wouldn’t be high on my list of places to stay, but I guess good for Hobart overall to have another hotel.

Assume this is the Hyatt Centric which was announced .. and then all went quiet? Would have rathered a Hyatt ... typically avoid Accor hotels. But good to see some new hotels in Hobart!

It was - the property management rights changed in 2019 for some reason.

Hoping for a review from someone here soon as we have just booked it over Easter
Im heading down to Tassie in 2 weeks, havent booked a hotel in Hobart yet, was waiting for the border to open to us Brisbanites, so will now look at options.

So went to book on the ALL website, but booking wouldnt go thru.
So called up, cannot use an upgrade voucher or use points to book the hotel, ended up booking a Mantra property with points, ( have a lot of )

But would it be worth the price? basic room is $200, then jump up to over $300 for higher levels

Mantra on Collins is a nice property. Mantra One I'm not a big fan of.

So rechecked the rate, and low and behold, it had dropped. So cancelled the Mantra booking and am now booked at the Movenpick. Just the 1 night, Friday 12th, which also happens to be the wifes birthday :) hopefully some brownie points coming my way :)

Fantastic! Can I ask approximately how much you paid?

$183, for the base room. Fingers crossed for a ALL Diamond upgrade
I see they have dropped rates by about $30/n since I booked last week, even Easter is cheaper.
We paid $385/n for the Deluxe room over Easter and they are now $355/n.
For those without status they are offering free breakfast with the base room now aswell

There are much nicer hotels in Hobart in a better locations even cheaper than that.

But I think if the eastern seaboard can stay open for 5 minutes, people will start travelling again for leisure and prices will go back up.

I don’t mind paying that over Easter and I’m keen to try it out.
As a general rule in Australia we stay at Accor or Hilton properties if possible
