Accompanying child access with a single use QP "Complimentary Invitation"

I have had a look through old threads and at the QFF and QP T&C and cannot find a clear answer even though I suspect I know what it is.

The QP Complimentary Invitations given out to PS's clearly state they are for a single visit for one person but as the QP access rules state that an accompanying child (up to 2 aged 0-17yrs) is not considered as a guest (obviously for QP members) I was wondering if the same applies with these invitations.....

I suspect a QP pass isn't treated the same as a QP membership, but I can't imagine it would increase lounge occupancy by too much if a pass holder was able to bring in up to 2 kids with them. I think it'd be a very positive move

I would take the view that the child access guide applies to anyone who is eligible to enter the Qantas club.

Even if the T&Cs relate guest access to being a member.

I've always thought to myself if I found myself in that situation, I'd highlight the ridiculousness of it by informing the children that the Lounge Dragon is not letting them in and they have to stay at the entrance... and then start to walk in. Would that make me a bad parent?

I gave my brother a single pass once, and BNE QP let both him and his wife in without question.

My cousin in law is using one of my passes today with their infant. If I hear the outcome will update.

I think that it is imposible (or at least unreasonable) for every posible scenario to be specified by airline policy. So there are always going to be human-decided interpretations of rules.


If someone turned up with a pass, with a quiet 1 yr old, at a time the QP was almost empty, I suspect there would be no problem.

If that same person turned up when the lounge was packed, and their ¨accompanying¨minor was an 8 year old boy throwing a tantrum, then the acess may be different.

I gave two passes to a lady at work to use with her wife and young child. Any person at the lounge desk who refuses a child entry with their parent is a bum.

With all these conflicting viewpoints I think this is why QF coming out and saying that it would be acceptable to bring a child guest in would be beneficial. Best not to leave these things to chance.

Hi, subject to lounge capacity on the day, children aged between 2-17 years are not counted as guests. While the pass doesn't entitle you to take a guest, you may take two children into the lounge with you.

The staff at the MEL QP advised my wife this morning that you gave me incorrect information Red Roo (I disagree)

When they went to enter this morning, they were advised that the card does not allow the holder to take a child into the club and then advised that a child is under 14 anyway. (Miss Steady is 14) I gave Mrs Steady a print out of this thread to show them if needed, this is where they got their supervisor who also disagreed and said we had been given the wrong information about an accompanying child but accepted the wrong info was from QF so let Mrs & Miss Steady enter in the end, everyone was professional and friendly. The supervisor kept the print out - hopefully he will check into it a bit more and save someone else the hassle in the future.

Thanks Red Roo, yes they did enjoy their lounge visit.

(I was not with them - they don't fly very much and when they do it is normally as a whole family and enter as my guests)

Might be worth directing the lounge staff to the qantas website which says a child for lounge access purposes in under 18.

It will be interesting to hear the outcome of this. Certainly good form of the staff to accede to the request at the time.

Red Roo: Do QF rotate staff through various ground duties (including Lounge Admission/Service Desks) per BA or are they dedicated roles?
