Generally upon arrival I head straight to the exit and go on my way however in a few weeks I have a MEL-SYD where I will have a couple of hours to kill as I wait for someone coming off another flight. I just looked it up on the QF site and it seems that I cannot use the lounge on arrival. What are people's experiences with this and is it actively policed? I find most of the time I go to a QP I just flash my FF card and am waved in, very rarely have they asked to scan it or see my BP.

By strict rules, the only people who can use the domestic QP (or even domestic J Lounge) after an eligible domestic flight are QF Platinums.

If you are such a member, then that's fine. The staff may want to see your status card and previous boarding pass, however.

Anything else... well, you're lucky then.

That's how I interpreted the rules, I just thought based on the fact that at least 50% of the times I use the lounge on outbound travel the lounge angels only wish to see my Gold FF Card and don't actually scan it. Will test my luck when I need it for arrival access.

Just another reason I can't wait to get back to WP!

I've done this a number of times, and have been successful by simply asking the staff and explain that I'm waiting for a friend. This has worked on every occasion. The reason I ask is that once when I didn't, they scanned my card and they saw that I had just gotten off a flight and refused entry, got a lecture about trying to be 'sneaky' and that I should simply ask as I'll have a better chance and avoid the embarrassment of being caught out.

What status were you when this happened?

Obviously it depends on the staff member on the gate and the location. In MEL I don't think they have scanned my SG/WP card once this year.. In ADL and HBA they always do and the couple of times I've been to CBR/SYD this year they have as well.

The the OP, best to be honest and explain with a smile and you're more likely to be let in!

Happened on SG and LTG. Also obviously happened on WP but I have missed WP the last couple of years and still generally not been scanned. Melbourne rarely ever scans, Sydney almost always does so I think I will just explain the situation and see how I go!

I had mixed experience with scans, but, are you leaving the same day? if so, you can probably get into the lounge anyway ;)

Nope I am flying MEL-SYD then meeting a friend who is flying in from someone where else but arrives 2 hours later on another QANTAS flight, I think from BNE maybe. I am flying on the day I want to lounge in SYD but not outbound from SYD.

Had same situation in SYD as a QP NB. Was waiting for mate to arrive into SYD (Int'l), having flown in from elsewhere on QF. Politely explained the situation and would they mind if I spent the two hour wait in the QP and could I use the T-Bus across to the Int'l terminal even though I wasn't flying out. They happily obliged with both.

I have never had my card scanned unless I prompted them to do it (i.e. when I was trying to get an ODU)

I noticed on Friday morning at MEL that cards were being scanned on entry to the QP - noting that mine wasnt scanned as I waltzed in and onwards to the J lounge.
