SO: Significant Other, referring to one’s partner.

The rather Rumpolesque SWMBO has popped up from time to time as well, so maybe She Who Must Be Obeyed should be in the list as well....

Thanks! It is good to be reminded every now and then on why remaining single has it's merits. :)

Also (although someone else can probably shed some light on what the actual acronyms mean), the following refer to Qantas status:
WP = Platinum
SG = Gold
PS = Silver
NB = Bronze

This originated on another board.

We basically had a get together in BrisVegas, were several of us flew in from around the country and got ourselves shattered at the BNE Qantas Pub. During the meeting, it came about that us Gold's are Scum (hence the SG acronym). Us SG's then decided that Platinums were Wankers (hence the WP acronym).

We then set about finding something to call the Silvers and Bronzes, namely Plebian Silver (PS) and Nuthin Bronze (NB).

These abbreviations have become quite legendary on that other board. It adds to the quirky nature of the QF forum.

Dave
I just noticed these have not been entered into post #7:

cf
Code:
WP = W@nker Platinum
SG = Scum Gold
PS = Plebian Silver
NB = Nufin' Bronze

Presently listed is:

QFWP: Qantas "W*nker" Platinum - A platinum member of QFs FF program.

QFSG: Qantas "Scum" Gold – A Gold member of QFs FF program.

QFPS: Qantas "Plebian" Silver – A Silver member of QFs FF program.

QFNB: Qantas "Nuthin" Bronze – A Bronze member of QFs FF program.

It's a good idea to list the WP, SG, PS & NB abbreviations seperately, as often on the board people refer to e.g. WP without the QF prefix.

Thanks serfty, have added WP, SC, PS, NB.

I think it is time this thread was moved to sticky status.

It moves too far down the list and is very helpful for new members to get acquainted with the abbreviations used by regulars on AFF. Would it be better in the Your Tips forum rather than the Your Questions forum? Probably not.

My first post as an Aussie resident :D . admin has kindly moved this sticky from the Your Tips section to Your Questions, where I feel it's potentially more useful for N00bs. Happy Easter All :!:

A new Aussie to AFF! Well done. :) Happy Easter to you as well.

Sorry BlacKnox, I took the liberty of asking admin to make those changes after my last post. It deserved to be a sticky and admin and I felt it belonged in the Your Questions section.

As you say many n00bs will find it useful and a good reference for the not so n00bs. :)

748 - Boeing 747-8 series aircraft (perhaps we can include other aircraft types later)

I almost went "HS 748"... I might be getting old (or nerdy).

A new type for JQ! Lets see them try to squeeze 400+ passengers into one of those :p .

At least with the HS 748 all passengers get to turn left on boarding :mrgreen: .

I have another question. I saw at least one person that had "PPL" in their sig. Are they referring to private pilot's licence or something else?

Sure does.. However, I'm not sure if there is another meaning on this forum...

GFPT - General Flying Proficiency Test (the first license which used to be called RPL -Restricted Pilot's license).
PPL-Private Pilot License comes next. Then on to
CPL - Commercial Pilot License,
ATPL - Air transport Pilot License.
Then there are a stack of ratings which can be done at different times during your training.
The most common being
NVFR - Night Visual Flight Rules
PIFR - Private Instrument Flight Rules
CIR - Command Instrument Rating
CSU - Constant-Speed Propeller/Retractable Undercarriage Endorsement
ME - Multi-Engine Endorsement.

After 18 years I have PPL, CSU and ME and about 230 hours..This qualifies me to fly during the day with visual reference to the ground in any aircraft I am endorsed on up to a twin engine one with CSU. That includes Piper Warrior, Arrow, Archer, Cessna 152, Beechcraft Bonanza and Duchess (twin).

There have been some droughts in my flying including the current one - 18 months.. But that will change in August :D. A bit of refresher training, a test and I'll be free to cruise the skies once again.. It's almost like riding a bike...

Was wondeing if there was another meaning on this forum. :D Your list gives good clues for those who are curious about those things though.

Have fun in August. You'll be needing a BFR (I assume they still run that system?), I guess?

Thought I would put most of it in just in case there are those on this forum interested.

They sure do.. So I've probably got about 8 hours of flying including the BFR and 5 - 10 of ground school.. CASA just keeps changing the rules and airspace for that matter! oh yes, and probably a few hundred dollars worth of documentation and maps...

The things we do for expensive hobbies...

Re: Abreviations and Explanations

Can we add ++ as an abreviation?

++ of course meaning Plus taxes, plus surcharges, plus fuel fines, plus charity donations, plus anything else Airlines/Governments feel like adding to airfares under the guise of "taxes and charges"?
