Abbreviations and explanations

re: ABBREVIATIONS & EXPLANATIONS

Thanks for this thread. Makes the whole site a lot more useful.
Can we consider a new thread *just* with what is on page 7, or perhaps a wiki for this information? It seems hard to find .. going to page 7 of a 16 page thread to find the information you require.

A wiki might be a bit hard to keep up to date, but I don’t see why it couldn’t be added to the "Posting Guidelines and FAQ", or a similar sort of section on the website, though it would still be hidden away.

Re: Abreviations and Explanations

Yes and what is wrong with using that terminology. It was a boutique brewery in Camperdown, Sydney concentrating on premium beers, similar to Cascade, James Squire, before being sold in the early 90's and production transferred to the Tooheys brewery.

Hahn Premium Light is actually quite a nice beer although I am not too fond of Hahn Premium....
John,

You summed it up with 'it was a boutique brewery.'

It certainly is not now.

There is a link in post #1 which opens up the main post.

It just seems counter-intuitive... I guess I am looking at this from the perspective of other forums (namely Whirlpool) where once a thread has built communal information, it is consolidated into a Wiki.

re: ABBREVIATIONS & EXPLANATIONS

Couldn't agree more. Every now and then I have to go and look up the meanings of some of the less familiar abbreviations. I know I'm not alone.

re: ABBREVIATIONS & EXPLANATIONS

Two new ones given what has gone on lately:

NPPP = Neil Perry Party Pies (the food served by Qantas in domestic J lounges)
AIR = The magazine QF send out to WP's

re: ABBREVIATIONS & EXPLANATIONS

Is AIR an abbreviation though?

Its not, but I know I read some posts talking about stuff they had read in AIR and who got the AIR mailed to them. I had zero idea what they were talking about, until AIR turned up on my doorstep.

Anyways just trying to be helpful, feel free to disregard.

After posting I looked up what an abbreviation is, and I think AIR qualifies, because you’re referring to the magazine, but not saying AIR magazine.

Lucky you to get it though :p

Australian Institute of Radiography!

That’d be an acronym, would it not?

I will donate a prize to whoever comes up with the best verbiage producing a proper aconym for A I R !

It must be relevant and original and only my opinion counts for Adjudication.

I am frequently frustrated by abbreviations, acronyms etc used on this site. An advanced search shows the posts on this subject are many and varied and go back several years.

I could not find a list of abbreviations as a standard feature anywhere. Is there such a list available ?

I strongly recommend that such a list be part of the "Community" headings which are shown as you click on "Discussion Board"

Perhaps having the 'Abbreviations and Explanations' thread as a sticky in the 'Your Questions' forum is a little out of the way for new users.

This is exactly what I was getting at. It is not prominent enough, especially for new users.

I'm afraid that at my age sticky goes with date pudding or it's what happens when you spill the honey.

I guess it is related to how peole use the site. I usually just go straight to New Posts on each visit so I don't get to see any sticky-only happens if I get through to about page 5 with no more new (unread) posts
