Abbott in Government

Actually I think most of it is left wing tripe & who says the Government is failing?? Not through my eyes they're not. It's all been a refreshing change so far
Pissed off our neighbours, pissed off the conservative State governments, pissed off the right wing media darlings...yep, not at all failed, not in any way. They're behaving as the perfect Opposition and that's a good thing for them because that's where they're again heading.

Great change of heart by the government today. Looks like they were wrong, then right, then wrong and now right again on education reforms. I guess it's where you end up that counts.

That would be back in opposition then.

Keep on dreaming that's a long way off yet; if he's managed all that in a couple of months just think what he can achieve in a full term.

There will be no DD so what's that leave about 1000 sleeps?

Whatever it's a big number

Of course there won't be a double dissolution - the best result One Term Tony could get from that would be the return of Malcolm as leader of the party. President Credlin will do what she can to hold her grip on power, unless of course her Alcoholics Anonymous chapter reins her in, the poor thing.

Gonski reversal: Tony Abbott backflips, puts $1.2b into schools

TA now defending his embattled education minister....what did I say about the education minister previously?:evil:...he is clearly out of his depth, and the sooner he is replaced the better but this is unlikely to happen to TAs "attack dog" whilst in opposition!

You need to drop the one term Tony because you're dreaming at least electricity Bill is based on fact

Yesterday: Mr Abbott suggested there was confusion. ''We are going to keep the promise that we made, not the promise that some people thought we made or the promise that some people might have liked us to make. We are going to keep the promise that we actually made,'' he said.
Today it seems more like "We are now going to keep the promise that we did actually make, the promise that people thought we made, not the BS that we tried yesterday to convince Australians that they should believe that we made, or the promise that we secretly made to the Private Schools at the same time that we made promises to the Australian public that we don't tell lies"
Gosh ... its really clear now. Travelling beautifully Phoney Tony

Just remember every extra dollar spent will end up coming out of some taxpayers pocket eventually.
Education pays the highest dividend so as long as the money goes to educating it will allow us to have a better nation.
Our current education system has not produced a better grade of student going into a workplace. Many teenagers cannot count, write anything in English nor communicate well. We really need to start fixing this.

My old catholic primary school beat some of the best private schools in the last naplan tests. Why? When I was there it was about rote learning and they probably still teach the same way. We also need to stop giving kids technology too early.

In Perth we have a real estate sensation going on based on High School results. For several years Rossmoyne High and now Willetton High have been doing super well in overall test results. There has been a huge influx of Indian and Chinese students into these school zones and real estate prices have surged dramatically. I don't know about the north side of Perth but this is what is happening on the south side.

A lot to be said for that but it is also about the teachers.I went to a public school. We were the second year to attend.I still remember our teachers who knew how to get the best out of their students.Particularly our Maths and Chemistry teachers.Special mention to the Librarian who taught a group of us nerds how to play bridge and chess-particularly successfully I might add with yours truly going 2 years undefeated on board one but our board 2 went on to be a Grand Master.
3 of us started Medicine in our year and the 3 of us graduated without a fail and all with honours.
It wasn't just rote learning but we were taught how to learn.

9.13% is still a considerable amount in my case between work & home that's about $1800 a year

Yet it's not the 50 or 100% claimed by Tony. Then there is the fact that its only 6.39% on the work portion of the $1800. Funny you didn't bother to separate the amounts. There is also the fact that the extra cost was going to decrease with the ALP, when the cap was removed.

Did he seriously ever say it was 50%?

Anyway I don't know what it was like elsewhere but in NSW both of my electric bills (different providers) only stated the average family government estimates will pay (I think it was around) $350ish carbon tax on their electricity bill pa. Well thanks but I'd like to know exactly what I'm paying because it's lots more than that but I couldn't find it itemized anywhere.

So if they'd been more open about it in the first place there would have been less confusion. I don't know wether it was the electricity companies hiding it to bump up the prices or the government to blame or both but I think it would have been in everyone's interests if the whole thing had been more transparent then everyone could have made an educated judgement on it.

So you're happy with the fact that One Term Tony can't tell the difference between 70% and 9.13%, and that he lacked the nous to get someone else to check it for him before he was forced to table the account. Yes, of course you are...

No I'm surprised three terms got it wrong I mean it was never going to be 70% and he must have known that so the whole story is a bit confusing

Pyne really is such a waste of space. It'd be great if he was the first to be 'shuffled' out of the Cabinet.

I agree that the Libs still seem to be in Opposition mode. I think they've also forgotten the most important aspect of Australian politics: 'the mainstream media giveth, and the mainstream media taketh away.'

They've obviously got a long, long time to turn things around, however, the sinking poll numbers will both give them pause and embolden the ALP, Greens and Palmer to pile the pressure on and extract their pound of flesh.
