I've read on a few topics the concept of the platinum challenge.

I've looked on the AA website and can't find anything about it.

Maybe there is a topic that I've missed explaining it?

I've joined AAdvantage (and belong to QANTAS and Asia Miles) and am about to do a fair bit of J class travel in Asia (until now I have mostly been traveling in the pacific hence NZ).

I usually fly *A airlines so don't have much status on OW (none in fact although a QC member).

Can anyone enlighten me?

Is it worth listing the AA FF number instead of QFF?

I'm not listing Asia Miles because while the progam is good to transfer points into (AMEX, although 2:1 and Starwood) with faily cheap redemption requirements) I seem to earn more on QFF.

I'm probably not making the most of my miles as I seem to have bits everywhere!

MetroAir, as I did for Bob and kpc in the thread mentioned by BlacKnox, give me your flight information (fare class and sectors) and I'll do the calculations for you.

As I mentioned in your other thread, I think you'll make it by the time you certainly leave BKK (if you haven't already by that stage), assuming they're J class flights.

Thanks Lindsay

I pm'd in response to the other topic before I saw this reply.

Appreciate your help.

Cheers

MetroAir, just went and dug out the phone number to ring AA Res USA: 0011 1 800 843 3000.

Much, much quicker and easier than ringing AA SYD, who are clueless.

Instead of phoning try their website.

I've been ringing their call centre in the US as well but this week noticed they have a messaging service. Go to the Contact US link on the website, work you way into the pages where it gives you the contact phone/fax numbers and right down the bottom is the link "Email us". You login with your AA number then takes you into their messaging service.

Sent a message last night to confirm that I was enrolled and received a message back this morning. Seemed quite a good speedy service without having to wait on hold etc.

As a matter of interest they confirmed the current details of the program as follows:

..to complete the Platinum challenge you need 10,000 elite qualifying points during the challenge timeframe. Points are earned when you fly on eligible fares and flights of elite-qualifying carriers. For a list of these carriers, please go to our Web site at http://www.aa.com/aadvantage. Select 'Program Details' then click 'AAdvantage Elite Status' and 'Recognition by Other Airlines.' Let me emphasize that challenges are based on points, not miles.

--------------------
*Includes fares booked in H, K, M, L, W, and V
**Includes fares booked in G, Q (except American Airlines transatlantic
fares booked in Q and equivalent booking codes on participant airlines),
N, S and eligible domestic fares booked in O.

Anyone who has joined the AAdvantage program recently may be interested in this nice little promotion they currenlty have under way.

You must register for it. Can earn up to 30,000 bonus miles for flying AA plus 3 other OneWorld airlines. That is pretty simple exercise on a RTW fare. And 30K AA miles is a valuable asset, worth more (in my opinion) than 30K QF points.

Any idea whether that will be enforced?

I guess if you managed to register it may not be.
Hmm, didn't see that one in the promotion. Would be a bummer if you qualified in every other way and failed on that point.

Good luck with it, and please let us know how you get on. It would be sad if you can't get the bonus just because you live outside the USA. Lets hope its just one of those things the include on the T&C's from habit, rather than using residency as a means of targeting a specific market segment or competitive environment.

There doesn't seem to be any harm in giving it a go, so I've registered. It does say that you have to meet all the requirements, including residency.

I'll expect nothing and be pleasantly surprised if something turns up.

Will I qualify for Plat Challenge

Hi all,

Planning a round-the-world trip next summer to get to see friends and family in Europe and Canada from Australia. I want to sign up for the Platinum Challenge with AA, and am wondering if someone can advise if I will make it using this routing.

SYD-LHR (via Singapore)-ADM-LHR-YYZ-LAX-SYD

The fare is a mix of S and B classes on Qantas/BA and AA or I have the option of upgrading on the BA flights to World Traveller plus which is T or W fare based.

I am currently an AAdvantage member - not elite. Will this get me the 10,000 Q points needed?

Thanks for any help you can give.

Welcome to AFF, Wubba

S and B classes earn at significantly different rates so I think we'd need to see a segment by segment breakdown (carrier and booking class for each segment) to arrive at any reasonably accurate figure.

And are you really going to Ardmore Municipal Airport in the US? (ADM) :)

Cheers
